Strive for Unity

Church Family,

I am so proud of the ministry that our church was able to be a part of this week. We are so blessed to have the leaders and members that we do.

Ephesians 4:1-3 I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, 2with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, 3eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

Unity doesn’t just happen by accident. First, the gospel brings us together. Second, we have to view the gospel and our unity as being greater than our personal desires. Third, we have to strive to maintain unity.

The church has to strive for Unity. We can not be walking in a manner worthy of the gospel while trying to divide the church. The 2 don’t go together.

I think one way to help strive for unity is to pray for and encourage one another. Can I ask you to think of the areas of disagreement that you have with others? Will you pray for them? Will you consider a way to encourage them this week?

Reminders:

1) We had a wonderful week with our Missionaries from Toronto, Matt and Scott. I would like to hear your thoughts about their visit? Did anything surprise you? Help you? Disappoint you? Inspire you?

2) Begin inviting others to the Valentine's Banquet Feb. 11th at 6pm.

3) Thank you for your prayers this week. I will tell more about it this Sunday, but each prayer helped. We had a packed room of pastors on Tuesday and built relationships with another church on Wednesday. Keep praying.

Love, Serve, Go

Lots of Prayer this Week

Church Family,

I want to repeat what we went through last night as church.

Ephesians 3:13-21 So I ask you not to lose heart over what I am suffering for you, which is your glory. 14 For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, 15from whom every familyc in heaven and on earth is named,16that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. 20Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, 21to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Church this week we are hosting our Church Planters from Toronto. We need to pray that God will strengthen our hearts with His Spirit. Not according to our needs or wants, but according to the riches of His Glory. Will you join me in praying for at least 4 things:

1) For the safe travel of the missionaries, Matt and Scott

2) That God would move the hearts of fellow pastors, so that they might partner with Toronto in order to reach the world for Jesus. (Any Pastor is welcomed to Join us Tuesday or Wednesday to meet with Matt and Scott. Send me an email, call or message me for details)

3) How can we be a blessing to them?

4) That God would fill us with His Spirit. Oh, that the church would be set on fire for God during this time.

Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, 21to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Reminders:

1) Tonight we are hosting the Waccamaw Association meeting. Food will be served at 6pm. It's $5 to eat. At 7pm the meeting will begin.

2) Thank you in advance to everyone who is helping with the meeting tonight and the rest of our events this week.

3) Wednesday night at 6pm we are having a free supper and meeting with Matt and Scott as a church. Please come and hear from them yourselves.

Ephesians 2:8-10 The Workmanship of God

Church Family,

The Church of Ephesus, according to Revelation 2, knew how to do church, but lost the love of reaching the lost for Christ. In short, they had become an inwardly focused church. They knew how to tell people how to do church, but somewhere they stopped doing the deeds of a healthy church. Inwardly focused churches will inevitably become divided. When Faith in Christ is no longer leading the church, the people will have to pick sides within the church as to who they are following.

Ephesians 2:8-10 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

When Christ saves us, he doesn’t stop there. Believers become the workmanship of Christ. God continues to shape us and use us for His purposes. Paul says it this way in 1 Corinthians 15:10 “But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me.”

When we see ourselves as being the work of Christ, we humble ourselves and offer ourselves to God for His purposes. We never demand praise, but rather, give all the praise to the Grace of God. The believer must remember that it’s the Grace of God and not our works that make us who we are in Christ. No one can stand up and draw people to themselves, but rather they use what God has given them to draw people to Him. The church of Ephesus forgot this. They bragged about what they knew, what they had done, and forgot about the Grace of God. Their disunity(Ephesians 4) was never dealt with properly. History tells us that they never repented.

If we have trusted God with our eternal souls, why can’t we trust Him with our earthly life? We are what we are by the Grace of God. None of us can boast in ourselves, but rather let us boast and share with others what the Grace of God has done in our lives. Let us be quick to tell others that God wishes to extend His grace to their lives as well. Let us also be quick to trust that what God is doing in us is enough to accomplish His will.

Reminders:

  1. Sunday, we will have a brief meeting for those interested in going to Toronto on a mission trip this summer.
  2. Monday night at 6pm supper will be served and at 7pm the Association meeting begins. It will cost everyone $5 to eat.
  3. Wednesday January 24th, we will meet at 6pm. Supper will be free. We ask that you bring a dessert. We will meet with Matt Hess and Scott Ridenour from our Toronto church plant. Come and see why we are so excited to partner up with these and others in Toronto to reach the world for Christ.
  4. This Sunday we will have a baptism service. Please invite all your lost friends and loved ones to see this. Pray that God will pour out His Spirit on us before, during, and after this service.

Ephesians 2:8-10: By Grace

Church Family,

My heart is so full of joy this morning. I literally told my King and Savior all of the ways that I could remember of how I sinned against Him. Rebelled against Him. Spat in His face. Lied to the world about Him. In my brokenness I looked for every way to bring peace and happiness to my life, but none of them could satisfy my need for long.

By Grace, God’s unmerited favor. I can’t earn it, I don’t deserve it, but Praise God He gives it. Praise God that my sin weighs me down. How else would I know that I needed someone to heal the brokenness in my life? So, be amazed by this fact, God shows us that we have sinned and then God offers to pay for our sins. The one that we betrayed has chosen to save us.

Will you put your Faith in God today? Faith that by His grace He has paid it all. That all your sin can be forgiven. Faith that trusts that His ways, word, and promises are what we need. His commandments aren’t keeping us from joy, but they are screaming, if you do that, it is going to hurt you. God wants the best for us. Will you put your Faith in God today?

Ephesians 2:1-7 Dead in our sins

Church Family,

Ephesians 2:1-7 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— 3among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. 4But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us5even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— 6and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

Did you know that Dead people can't do anything? We are utterly lost without Christ. That person who does so much "good", who gives of their time, ability, and possessions, but is without Christ, is doing it all for themselves. They can claim to be doing it for God, but they are Dead. Unable to do anything towards God.

But God. Oh what a wondeful statement, But God, being who He is, has provided salvation because fo the great love with which He loved us. As you read God's word this morning, what He is telling you? Rejoice when God speaks. Treasure it and obey if called to do so.

Reminders:

1) Pray for the youth as the travel this Friday and return next Tuesday. Ask that God will save the lost and revived the saved.

2) Pray for Matt Hess and Scott Ridenour's trip here January 22nd-24th. Pray that God will build our relationship with them and that God would send other pastor's and churches to help with reaching the people of Toronto.

3) Monday January 22nd at 6pm We are hosting the Waccamaw Association Meeting

4) Wednesday January 24th we are having service at 6pm. Matt and Scott will be here to eat, fellowship and share with us. There will be a time for questions that you may have for them.

5) Senior Adult Outing at the Church next Tuesday for lunch.
