Hebrews 9

Church Family,

This Sunday I've been preparing to preach Matthew 13, the Parable of the Sower. The question that I have been asking myself is how do I prepare for Revival. I want to encourage you to read Matthew 13's Parable of the Sower to the prepare for worship this Sunday. Revival needs prayer, God's Word, the Spirit of God and a willing heart.

Confession time: I struggled mightily with what to write today. When I struggle I want to keep things simple, so let me share some of my favorite verses from my bible reading.

Hebrews 9:13-14  For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the sprinkling of defiled persons with the ashes of a heifer, sanctify for the purification of the flesh, 14 how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.

Hebrews 9:28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

How has God encouraged you today through your bible reading?

As you eagerly wait on Him to come back, take some time today to dwell on how much more Jesus is able to purify our conscience from dead works(past and future sins) in order that we can serve the living God.

Today serve the Lord by Inviting others to know Him. Tell someone about Jesus today. Invite them to church before the end of the day.

Continue or begin to pray for Revival

Good Friday

Church Family,

This morning began with a battle. I thought there was an option to choose Christ or something else. This really isn't anything new. If I'm being open about it, everyday begins and ends with a war. There is the constant failing, shame, and guilt from my sin. That's how I began my devotions this morning.

Luke 23:18-19 But they all cried out together, “Away with this man, and release to us Barabbas”— 19a man who had been thrown into prison for an insurrection started in the city and for murder. (How often do I choose rebellion and death over Christ?)

Luke 23:21 but they kept shouting, “Crucify, crucify him!” (How often do I attempt to Crucify Christ so I can do as I please?)

Is Satan right? Is God wronging me? Is God hold me back? Is Satan right? Am I the one that knows what's best? Am I unable to change? Is there no hope other than to destroy the only possibility of hope? Am I innocent?

Luke 23:22 A third time he said to them, “Why? What evil has he done? (Wait a second, what evil has God done? What can I charge Him with?)

Luke 23:33-34  And when they came to the place that is called The Skull, there they crucified him, and the criminals, one on his right and one on his left. 34And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.

Luke 23:46-47 Then Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” And having said this he breathed his last. 47Now when the centurion saw what had taken place, he praised God, saying, “Certainly this man was innocent!”

2 Corinthians 5:21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit,

Romans 7:24 Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?

His name is Jesus and in real time during Jesus' day He would have been on the Cross starting at 9am this morning. By 12pm the sky will have darkened. At 3pm He will give His last breath in the flesh. He did all this to save those who are constantly struggling, battling, and hurting. As Satan reminds you of how little you love God, please take a moment and reflect on how much God loves you.

Love, Serve, Go

My hearing is fine, but my listening skills are not

Church Family,

Today in my worship time I read Hebrews 4:2 "For good news came to us just as to them, but the message they heard did not benefit them, because they were not united by faith with those who listened"

The Gospel has and always will be the same

What a powerful warning! The Gospel message will not benefit those who refuse to place their faith in it. What I love about this is God is not asking us to change our behavior. He is not telling us to become better people. God's good news, the Gospel message is simply asking us to Believe in Jesus. Put our Faith in Him.

What a source of power! When we put our Faith in Christ we are UNITED together for God's purposes. This is not just a one time event, but a daily and constant surrender to Christ. Will we fail? Yes. Will we stumble? Yes, but those united by faith have heard and listened to the message: Only Jesus Saves. When we fail, when we stumble, when we sin, we turn from that sin, beg for God's forgiveness, and turn to Jesus.

Hebrews 4:15-16 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Are you united with other believers for the purpose of the Gospel? Or are you like the Israelites before us? They heard the same message but refused to listened. They continued to do things for their purposes and pleasures rather than for the gospel. Their culture was greater than the gospel in their minds.

Suffering Perfects

Church Family,

In all my reading's today the phrase Spiritual Warfare has come up constantly. Then when I began reading my bible I read Hebrews chapter 2 this morning.

Hebrews 2:10 For it was fitting that he, for whom and by who all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering.

This is extremely deep and profound, but in as simple of terms as I can use, I hope that you get what God has done. It's not that Jesus wasn't perfect, so much as God allowed every type of suffering and temptation to be thrown at Jesus. For what reason, well it is easy to say that Jesus is perfect and that if you will just trust God everything will be okay. It is a whole another level for God SHOW that Jesus is PERFECT by putting Christ through every possible form of suffering and temptation.

Hebrews 2:18 For because He himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

SO when in the Battle remember to give God the Glory because there is nothing that our sin or this world or Satan can throw at us that our Savior hasn't endured and overcome. Let your sufferings reveal that, yes, you are weak, but HE is strong.

The test that Kills

Church Family,

In my worship time this morning I read this:

2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you? unless indeed you fail to meet the test!

This Sunday we are going to take the Lord's Supper. Before doing so you are going to be asked to obey God's command to examine yourself. The problem we face is, what do we examine our lives by? Is it whether we are happy or sad? Do we examine our lives by our bank accounts, marriage, body image, how often we sin or didnt this week, etc?

No, we are to take the toughest test of all time, are we in the Faith? Is Christ in You?

Is everything that you are doing being done by Faith in Christ? Do you realize the Power of Christ in you to restore and build you up?

2 Corinthians 13:9 "Your restoration is what we pray for."

2 Corinthians 13:10 "....the authority that the Lord has given me for building up and not for tearing down."

The test is meant to kill you, to restore you, to give you life in Jesus only, to remove the things that aren't of Faith and to build upon your Faith in Jesus.

Love, Serve, Go!
