Laying down for the Lord

Church Famiy,

Commitment. How committed are you to following God? Read what God commands Ezekiel to do.

Ezekiel 4:4-6 “Then lie on your left side, and place the punishment of the house of Israel upon it. For the number of the days that you lie on it, you shall bear their punishment. 5For I assign to you a number of days, 390 days, equal to the number of the years of their punishment. So long shall you bear the punishment of the house of Israel. 6And when you have completed these, you shall lie down a second time, but on your right side, and bear the punishment of the house of Judah. Forty days I assign you, a day for each year.

Can you imagine the pain and hurt that he endured for 430 days? The temptation is to be like, “well it was easier for Ezekiel because God made it some how less painful.” Uh, NO!

Why bring this up? 2 reasons: 1) I read today that persecutors want believers to simply stop sharing the gospel. So, what is the difference between a persecutor and a believer who doesn’t share the gospel? In both cases the gospel is not being spread. (Man I fail to share my faith as often as I need to)

2) I also read that for a church to be committed to reaching the nations it needed 4 types of people: a) people to go, b) people to send, c) people to help raise support, d) people who are willing to welcome the Nations in their homes.

I am so excited that High Point is working on number 1 and checking off every box of number 2. Keep in mind that God has an eternal purpose for all that He has called us to. Strive to share your faith more often. Ask which of the 4, if not all of them, are you willing to be?

Reminders:

  1. Brotherhood, Feb 20th at 6:30
  2. We need people to sign up to help with the March 1st Fundraiser. More details will be shared Sunday.
  3. When is the last time that you celebrated what God has done in your life? Let’s do that together this Sunday night at 7pm.

Junior High Love

Church Family,

I jokingly tell people that my life verse for junior high was Proverbs 27:5 Better is open rebuke than hidden love.

Jokingly I claimed that it was better to tell the girl of my life(that week or day) how I felt about her, than to keep it hidden. Of course, this verse has nothing to do with that, but I was in Junior High every verse was applied to my lack of a love life. (The verse is describing how it is better when people lovingly correct/rebuke us, than letting us fail and say nothing about it at all)

Not sure why God brought this to my mind this morning, but I imagine it has to do with the fact that it is troubling how the world will beat some people down today. The world will tell us that love is found in the amount of flowers, candy, and jewelry that we get. The world will tell us that we have to have someone in our life. (Another Junior High lesson: never date during the holidays. What jobless kid can afford gifts) The world will take our focus from Christ and place it on our feelings, desires, and false idols.

I am so thankful that God’s love doesn’t stay silent when I sin. I am so thankful that Jesus, who lived a sinless life, died for the sins of the world. Praise God that even though we buried him, the grave could not hold him and Jesus rose from the dead on the Third day.

Can I encourage you today to pray for opportunities to have gospel conversations? Can I encourage you to love and care for those who struggling today? Believer take a moment today and reflect on the truth that we are loved by God for all of eternity.

Reminders:

  1. Prayer Meeting tonight at 7pm.
  2. Brotherhood Tuesday Feb 20th at 6:30

Husbands!

Church Family,

Ephesians 4:25-27 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, 26that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish

I fail miserably at this. In no way do I want to come across as having perfected this. How am I loving my wife in the same way that Christ loves the church? Have I given up me for “us”? Are my actions helping her to be more like Christ? Am I trying to remove the sin from my life that will help present her before the Lord?

Maybe the better question is am I intentionally trying to be like Christ when it comes to my marriage? I’m not Jesus, so I don’t want to imply that I can remove her sins, but I can seek to be Holy and remove my mess from around her. Men, what actions are you taking to be like Jesus today? For me, the first is to spend time with the Father. I hope that there is a second action, go and speak what the Father revealed and do what He showed me.

Reminders:

  1. Senior Adult Luncheon Tomorrow at 11:30 at the Church.

Grieving the Spirit

Church Family,

Grief, it’s a terrible word. At worst, we experience this when someone dies. At best, when someone causes us sorrow. Is it possible to be around people and yet be lonely? Is it possible to cause God sorrow?

Ephesians 4:30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

What could possibly cause us to grieve God?

V. 25 Lying about and to others. V26 Uncontrolled Anger, holding grudges, not seeking reconciliation with others. V28 laziness v29 foul mouthed, tearing down speech. V31 bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, slander, malice v32 unforgiving.

When we follow a spirit other than the Holy Spirit, it grieves God. If this is you, then take comfort in the fact that God longs to be with you. God wants us, not because we are so special, but because of who He is.

Reminders:

  1. Prayer Meeting Tonight
  2. Valentine’s Banquet Sunday at 6pm.
  3. Women’s of Joy deposit of $25 due Sunday
  4. Mission Trip Fundraiser March 1st. We hope to have tickets this Sunday if possible.

Are we accessible?

Church Family,

Are we, the church, accessible enough that if you have questions you feel like you can ask them? Am I, as the pastor, making it easy enough for you to bring your troubles, questions, doubts, etc. to me and the church? I’m not asking because I hope that there are needs. I am asking because recently I spoke with someone and encouraged them to pray about the issue. Their response was honest and open, “I don’t know how to.”

Ephesians 4:15-16 Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ,16from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.

There are so many things that I don’t know how to do or don’t do well. Praise God that He has given us a church family, a body of Christ, that is equipped to help build each other up. We need each other. I need you.

Praying for each of you today.

  6. The Fellowship Network has asked us to pray for them over the next 3 days. Throughout the year the staff/leadership will get together to pray and discuss the vision and future plans for the year. Pray for God’s presence, clarity, and the boldness to live out what God has laid out before them.
  7. Praise God for what He is doing within our church. We are set to baptize our 4th person since the new year. To God be the Glory. May this only be the beginning. Beg that God will continue reveal Himself to the lost.
