Faith without Works

Church Family,

James 2:17 So also Faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

Faith without works is dead. Works can not save us from God’s wrath, but His salvation leads to us doing works for Him. Here the word works is referring to any efforts that we do to make ourselves better, to redeem ourselves, and to save ourselves. Only Faith in Christ can save us. Yet, when we are changed by Christ, we wish to live out our redemption by doing works that reveal God’s salvation.

This Saturday we are doing to begin making bagged lunches at 9:30 in the church kitchen. We need any and all helpers.

Reminders:

  1. Monday night there is a Waccamaw Assn meeting at North Conway at 7pm.
  2. Don’t forget to sign up for Trunk or Treat
  3. Nov. 4th is Homecoming with Lanier Singleton
  4. I’m very excited start our Fasting sermon series this Sunday. Our topic this week is Revival. Has there ever been a time that you were closer to God? Are the church’s glory days in the past or present? Have you ever talked poorly about other church members or the church itself? Come see what God’s word teaches about this.

I will never leave you

Church Family,

This is one of my favorite passages in scripture.

Hebrews 13:5-6 Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” 6So we can confidently say,

“The Lord is my helper;
I will not fear;
what can man do to me?”

Maybe today you are questioning your walk with God? Maybe you have lived by Faith but wonder where God is at during this difficult time? You may be facing tough decisions that you fear will upset others at the risk of living for Jesus. Take courage in this passage. God will never leave you nor forsake you. We may have walked away from Him, but He does not walk away from us.

Can I challenge you to take your concerns to Christ? Lovingly lay before Him your concerns and thoughts. Be honest about your fears. Draw encouragement from Hebrews 12:3 Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.

Reminders:

  1. This Saturday we will meet at 9:30am to fix bagged lunches and then we will go out and deliver them. Any amount of help that you can give is appreciated.

  2. Prayer meeting tonight at 7pm!

  3. October 28th Trunk or Treat at 5pm. No scary costumes, games, candy, and food. We NEED people to sign up to decorate Trunks and to provide activities. Email or call in you have any questions.

  4. Nov. 4th is Homecoming with Lanier Singleton. Please help provide lunch. We are also taking a new church picture following the service.

When only Christ will do

Church Family,

Do you ever have those days where you need someone, but a person just won’t do? Sure, it would be great to talk about your hurts/needs with someone in the flesh, but your soul hurts in a way that your mouth can’t express. You need someone greater than a pastor, friend, or family. You need the great high priest.

Hebrews 8:6 But as it is, Christ has obtained a ministry that is as much more excellent than the old as the covenant he mediates is better, since it is enacted on better promises.

Billy Graham once said that if he could go back and change things, he would preach less and pray more. How is your prayer life? Are you carrying burdens that humans can hear but can’t lift? Go to the one with a much more excellent ministry.

Reminders:

  1. We’ve had a great response to helping feed flood victims. We would like to try and feed them again this weekend, but we need your help. Could you please email me with a response if you are able to help? You can sign up to prepare the bags and/or deliver. This sign up will determine if we continue to do this or not.
  2. Thank you to all the youth, youth leaders, and John Morello for a wonderful service yesterday. Some have asked how they can help support John’s ministry, if you have any interest in this let me know.
  5. Tonight, Baptist Women are meeting at Wanda’s and the Brotherhood are meeting at the church.

Beset with Weakness

Church Family,

Praying for everyone’s protection during the upcoming storm. If anyone needs help, please let us know.

Much has been made lately in some circles about whether people are called to ministry or not. On one hand, every believer is called to ministry. Go and make disciples is a call to ministry. There are many other verses that support the calling of all believers. On the other hand, while there is a general calling to make disciples, God also specifically calls us to certain ministries.

A good thought to keep in mind is this, you are always trying to fulfill the general calling of God to Go and Make Disciples. Likewise, when God specifically calls you to certain ministry, you must use that ministry to Go and Make Disciples.

Hebrews 5:1-4 For every high priest chosen from among men is appointed to act on behalf of men in relation to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. 2He can deal gently with the ignorant and wayward, since he himself is beset with weakness.3Because of this he is obligated to offer sacrifice for his own sins just as he does for those of the people. 4And no one takes this honor for himself, but only when called by God, just as Aaron was.

Just as Christ did not give Himself the ministry of the High Priest, we can not give ourselves our own ministry. It is given to us by God. I also love the reminder that I am beset with weakness. No matter how great my calling, my strength will never come from me. I am beset with weakness, not strength. God is both the caller and provider of ministry. Where is God calling you?

Reminder:

  1. Tonight, Prayer meeting at 7pm.
  2. Mrs. Bela Murrow has gone to be with Jesus. Her celebration of life will be this Friday starting with visitation at 12 and the funeral at 1pm. All of this will be held at the church. Please pray for her family.
  3. Saturday, weather permitting we are going to attempt to provide meals for Relief workers. I will give the final details on this in the Friday Email.
  4. Sunday we are taking up a special offering for the Shoebox ministry.
  5. Sunday we are celebrating YOUTH SUNDAY with special guest John Morello. Following the service, we will have lunch at the church. We will NOT have evening services. Both the Adult choir and children’s choir plan to practice before(adult) and after (children) the meal.
  6. Trunk or Treat October 28th at 5pm. Our theme is the Bible. Please sign up to decorate a trunk or run a game/activity. Use your trunk or game to creatively share the gospel.
  7. Homecoming with Lanier Singleton Nov. 4th. Lunch will be served and no evening services.
