I will put my law within them

Church Family,

In my morning worship I read Jeremiah 31:33-34 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the LORD: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 34And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”

How? How does God put His law within us and write on our hearts? The Bible teaches us that when a person is born again, God Himself, Holy Spirit, dwells within the person who has been born again. God Himself teaches us, guides us, and convicts us.

Yet, I can hear satan now, "remember how sinful you use to be," and "there's no way God can use you." Look at the end of verse 34. God will remember their sin no more. In another verse in the Bible God says that He casts our sin as far as the east is from the west. Does this mean that God does not know about our sin? No, it means that He know longer holds it against us.

What is God telling you this morning? What has He written on your heart lately? How often do you hear satan speaking accusations rather than hearing God speaking His love over you?

Reminders:

1) Thank you. Our family can not put into words our appreciation and joy that your prayers, phone calls, and presence last night meant to us. High Point was the talk of the town last night because of its strong showing of love for our family at the funeral home.

2) Tuesday at 11:30 is the Senior Thanksgiving Luncheon

3) Wednesday at 7pm we are using our time together to help put together shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. If you have any leftover shoeboxes that are unused please bring them. We believe we have enough toys to make another 75 boxes, but need about 15 more empty shoeboxes.

Jeremiah 29:11 God's real plan

Church Family,

We love Jeremiah 29:11, but we often forget the context of it. By the way, you need to read the entire chapter, it is awesome.

In Jeremiah 29:23 because they have done an outrageous thing in Israel, they have committed adultery with their neighbors’ wives, and they have spoken in my name lying words that I did not command them. I am the one who knows, and I am witness, declares the LORD.’”

Yes, God has a plan, but it is to change the adulterous and lying people of God. How often do people lie about what God said or didn’t say? Did you know the divorce rate in the church is the same as the world’s? What a shame.

We love Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

The idea that God has a plan for us, gives us comfort, strength, and encouragement, but Why did God say this? The answer is found in verses 12-14 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. 13You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. 14I will be found by you, declares the LORD, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and all the places where I have driven you, declares the LORD, and I will bring you back to the place from which I sent you into exile.

God’s plan was a 70 year plan to make His people more like Him and abandon the lies, cheating, and idolatrous living they were currently doing. God’s plan for your life is the same. It is to call you to turn from your sin and turn to Jesus for forgiveness and salvation. This is called repentance.

Can I lovingly ask you today to see God’s plan for your life as not being about making the best you, but to reveal the best of Him to the world through you.

Reminders:

God's a Broken Record

Church Family,

Does God ever sound like a broken record to you? Have you grown dull to hearing the same message over and over again? Have you ever accepted the challenge of obeying the message?

I must admit that reading through Jeremiah is not always the most encouraging book to go through. I delighted today when reading how like Christ, Jeremiah, proclaimed the Word of God even though his life was being threatened(14). I also rejoiced at how God placed someone in Jeremiah’s life to stand in between the gap and speak up for God and ultimately Jeremiah’s life(24). Yet, while I wish to write about those things, they are not the main subject of the chapter.

V8 says ““all the people laid hold of him, saying, “You shall die!”” and v11 they claim, “this man deserves the sentence of death.”

V 15 Only know for certain that if you put me to death, you will bring innocent blood upon yourselves and upon this city and its inhabitants, for in truth the Lord sent me to you to speak all these words in your ears.

What should blow the reader away in this chapter is that while God sent messenger after messenger the people still wouldn’t listen. They have a false morality about them that says we don’t want to kill God’s man, but we won’t listen to him either. It would be like a nation or church that heard the same message constantly and begged for a new message, but failed to realize that until they obeyed the first message, God could not send them a new one.

Can I encourage you today to ask yourself, Is there a constant theme to messages that you hear from your teachers and leaders? Do you find yourself as being full of your grace by wanting to get rid of them, but tolerating them because they are God’s man or woman? If you would be so kind, would you set your heart today to following that message, even if just for a season. You may find that just like Jeremiah, they wished to teach or lead you someone different, but can not until you obey the first commands.

I must confess that when I first started reading my bible, I somehow always came across the parable of the sower. It is a theme within my heart, to stop ignoring it’s message and take to heart what God was trying to impress upon me: The message will produce fruit, will I prepare my heart to be obedient.

Warning to Pastor's

Church Family,

As I prepare to go and gather with other pastors today at the Pastor's Conference, my devotion hits very close to home. Jeremiah 23 is packed full of warnings to pastors and leaders. The warnings are mostly towards those who are false teachers and leaders. God warns those who are casting the wrong vision, speaking from their dreams, and scatter the church, rather than gathering. The sad truth is that these leaders probably know they are doing wrong, but their sinfulness and the approval of the people, has become more important than being godly. Then comes a great hope in the chapter, early in the chapter actually.

Jeremiah 23:5-6 “Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, and he shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. 6In his days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely. And this is the name by which he will be called: ‘The LORD is our righteousness.’

The Lord is our righteousness! What a powerful truth. No matter how much I've sinned or how much "good" I've done, Jesus is my Righteousness. I will never appeal to God based on what I've done or haven't done, but only in who Jesus is. Oh, that God would forgive my sinfulness and foolishness! There in Jesus, Justice has been done concerning all my sin for Jesus has paid it all. There in Jesus, Righteousness has been done concerning my needs for forgiveness for Jesus has made a way for all to to be forgiven.

Let, me encourage you today to dwell on the truth, that Jesus is our Righteousness. Let God's grace break you from your snares of sin and encourage you to follow Him.

Reminders;
1) Tonight the Baptist Women are meeting at Becky Singleton's house at 6:30pm

2) Tuesday the BYW's are meeting at the Bistro at 6pm.

3) Shoeboxes are due next Sunday morning Nov. 12th

The way of life or death

Church Family,

Today in my daily bible reading I read:

Jeremiah 21:8-9 “And to this people you shall say: ‘Thus says the LORD: Behold, I set before you the way of life and the way of death.9He who stays in this city shall die by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence, but he who goes out and surrenders to the Chaldeans who are besieging you shall live and shall have his life as a prize of war."

How does this happen? How can a people who are supposed to follow God, become like this? Yet, even today, there are churches that will close their doors for the last time this week. Over the years they listened to others, rather than the men of God, they had poor leadership, followship and any of other ships that would sink the church. Now their only option is to close the doors. Israel in it's pride failed to listen to God. Long before He said this, God had already laided out the way of life and death. The people in their pride just didnt think that God meant that about them. Now, their existence is their prize. Gone is the church, nation, capital, etc. that was their joy at one time.

Can I challenge you today to pray for the churches around you? Maybe you need to pray for the person that has been warned over and over, but never listens. Give them grace just as the Lord as given grace to you.

Reminders:

1) Homecoming this Sunday. Bring enough food for your family and others. NO evening services

2) Turn back your clocks 1 hour on Saturday night.

3) Be sure to bring your worship with you this Sunday!
