Worst Advice EVER: Just follow your heart

Church Family,

What's the worst advice you have ever heard? For me its, Just follow your heart. That’s what we have heard in some form or fashion all of our lives. How do you feel? Which decision makes you feel better?

The reason we think and feel this way is found in Jeremiah 17:9-10 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? 10“I the LORD search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds.”

There is nothing more wicked and deceitful in all of God’s creation than my heart. To tell someone to follow their heart has led to people leaving their wives, husbands, and kids so they could chase what made them feel good in the moment. This type of thinking has led to churches abandoning scripture, removing the gospel, and staying the same in the name of tradition, rather than being transformed by the power of the gospel. Following our heart has changed the definition of family, claims to allow boys to become girls or vice versa, and racist to hate the creator for the creation that He made. These are just some examples.

Preachers don’t declare thus says the Lord anymore, but rather this is what we feel and prefer. Never ever will how we feel trump what God has said.

Our feelings demand to be lifted higher than God’s authority. Then, when God says something like He does in Jeremiah 18:6 O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter has done? declares the LORD. Behold, like the clay in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel.

When God says this our feelings get hurt. God has every right to send every soul to Hell and He would be righteous to do so. Yet, because God is so gracious He provides salvation. God should smash us like a piece of pottery that can not put itself back together, but instead God searches the wicked heart and provides salvation.

Can I encourage you today to stop trying to pacify the feelings of a wicked heart and follow the truth of God’s word? Stop living a life bent on Hellish ways and give your life to Christ. Trust that His word is good and that it has your best interest in mind. Mainly, the saving of your soul.

Thanking God for you

Church Family,

I was blown away last night, but not by the wind. I was blown away by the display of God's love and care through you all. The weather did not keep yall from loving, serving, and going to minister to others last night. Thank you so much to everyone who attended the Trunk or Treat. Thanks to the cooking crew, cleaning crew, those who decorated Trunks, passed out candy, and most importantly, those who prayed. I loved doing this together with you all. We also, not only met our goal of Inviting 1800 people to church this year, we smashed that by Inviting over 500 people this past week alone.

Today in my bible reading I read Jeremiah 16:11-12 then you shall say to them: ‘Because your fathers have forsaken me, declares the LORD, and have gone after other gods and have served and worshiped them, and have forsaken me and have not kept my law, 12and because you have done worse than your fathers, for behold, every one of you follows his stubborn, evil will, refusing to listen to me.

The people wanted to know how they had sinned? Why was God disciplining them so harshly? What stuck out to me was they had forsaken God. They turned away or abandoned God. We often try to deal with a certain sin, but have you ever considered that your certain sin is a byproduct of forsaking God? Is there a command of God that you refuse to believe or obey? Is there something God is calling you to do, but you keep turning away from Him?

Can I lovingly ask you to think about this today, the bible tells us that God will never leave us or forsake us(Hebrews 13). Just because we leave God, doesnt mean that God leaves us. If you are in a season that involves your forsaking God, then please turn back to Him. He will never leave you or forsake you. Draw strength from this promise.

Reminders:

1) Visitation tonight 5:30 food and 6:15 going out. Come help us make contact with our visitors from yesterday.

2) Praise God for the new additions to our church family, Markelli Adams and family.

3) Homecoming this Sunday, Nov 5th with Dr. Tommy Richardson. Please bring enough food for you and a guest.

An Ever Present Unwelcomed Guest

Church Family,

I almost hate to write this because I dont want to offend anyone, but have you ever had or known an ever present unwelcomed guest. You know, that person that is always there, but never really part of the group? This sounds very Junior Highish, but you get the picture and I hope that's not you. When we read this passage, the temptation is to read it as if God is no longer coming around, but that's not true. God is always present. Yet, God is not always welcomed.

Jeremiah 14:7-9 Though our iniquities testify against us, act, O LORD, for your name’s sake; for our backslidings are many;
we have sinned against you. 8O you hope of Israel, its savior in time of trouble, why should you be like a stranger in the land,
like a traveler who turns aside to tarry for a night? 9Why should you be like a man confused, like a mighty warrior who cannot save? Yet you, O LORD, are in the midst of us, and we are called by your name; do not leave us.”

What would happen if we committed to know God? Imagine having a mighty warrior ready to save, but a people unwilling to be saved. Do you really want God to be God in your life? In the life of your church? Can I encourage you today to confess your sins, cry out to God, plead that He will not leave us, and trust in His mighty hand to Save you?

Reminders:

1) Trunk or Treat begins at 5pm this Sunday. Please have your cars ready at 4:30.

2) Please pray for the Lost, the Gospel presentation, those who are hearing it, and our Visitation this coming Monday night. May God send us the Lost of Horry County, May we proclaim the Gospel with Power and Conviction, and Finally may the lost receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior today.

3) Visitation Monday night. Food at 5:30, 6:15 going out.

4) Homecoming Nov. 5th with Dr. Tommy Richardson our DOM. Please come and Invite others to join us.

Warning, I did it anyway

Church Family,

Praise God for you! What a wonderful time of worship we had yesterday from Sunday school to choir practices to a time of prayer. Boy, God sure is good.

If my parents had a nickle for every time they warned me before I did wrong and I still went ahead and did it, they would be rich today. I can not help but think how God loved and still loves us today enough to tell us over and over again that if we do (fill in the blank) we are going to suffer. We like to think that God's greatest prophets had the largest crowds following them with appreciation, but that's not true. Many of God's prophets were ignored, beaten, and killed. Jeremiah, as I understand it only had 2 people repent under his ministry.

Today in my bible reading I read Jeremiah 9:23-24 Thus says the LORD: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, 24but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the LORD.”

Why wouldn't they listen? In part because they were too concerned with what "they" thought was right, who was the strongest, and who had the most riches. How does your understanding of the world, physical ability, and bank account influence your humility to follow God at all costs?

Can I lovingly challenge you today to brag on the Lord's love, justice, and righteousness to others? The easiest way to do this is to share the gospel with someone. Share how God loves them, died for them, and exchanges their sin for His righteousness.

Reminder:

1) Let's pray together this week. Pray that God will send the Lost to the Trunk or Treat, that the gospel will be clearly spoken and heard, that God would use us to be a part of the solution and not the problem, and finally that God would order our steps so we can Share the Gospel and Invite others.

2) Praise God we are up to 1713 Invitations since April. We can easily reach our goal of 1800 by the end of the week.

3) Tuesday is the Women's Bible Studay at 6pm. Taco's will be served.

4) Trunk or Treat is this Sunday at 5pm. Go to our facebook page and share the event today and this Friday.

5) Praying for you. Don't grow weary of doing good. What a blessing it is to be God's servant.

I called the Insurance company today

Church Family,

What a blessing this month has been! I do not have an exact count, but an educated guesstimate attendance of our Baptist Women, Baptist Young Women, and Brotherhood meetings is over 60 adults(forgot to count kids). These small groups and Sunday school are important. They are vital to connecting with others in the church. Keep Loving, Serving, and Going.

Now to vent, when Michael Brian was born we called and added him to our insurance, over 45 minute call. Then we were told we needed to make a correction, the company wanted him to be a junior, we wanted him to be the 2nd(we won). This led to another 45 minute phone call that sadly ended with the person saying, "Oh no! The system crashed. Please call back and have them press complete tomorrow." Well that phone call happened today. More on that at the end.

Are we spiritually ever like the insurance company, in that we will get all the info, power, and encouragement we need to follow Jesus, only to tell Him, "He will have to come back tomorrow?"

Jeremiah 5:1-3 Run to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, look and take note! Search her squares to see if you can find a man, one who does justice and seeks truth, that I may pardon her. 2Though they say, “As the LORD lives,” yet they swear falsely. 3O LORD, do not your eyes look for truth? You have struck them down, but they felt no anguish; you have consumed them, but they refused to take correction. They have made their faces harder than rock; they have refused to repent.

The people of Jerusalem spoke in believer terms, "as the Lord lives," yet they did not see that their anguish(in this case) was due to their sinfulness. If only they would have repented. Church are we so hard that we will not repent of our sins? Have we hardened our hearts to the point that we will swear it's not about us, but about God in our lives, yet the truth is we feel no anguish for the lost around us?

Can I encourage you this morning to Trust God? Trust Him with your sin. Turn away from your sin and turn to Jesus. Don't just get a bandaid to cover your sin for a while. Come and let God completely heal you from your sinfulness. Everyday we as believers need to go to God and beg His forgiveness. We should be a people of repentance. May the Grace of God strengthen your heart today.

By the way, this morning was another 42 minutes on the phone. It ended with, "Huh, you were right, we do have all your info and only needed to press complete." Sigh.

Reminders:

1) Prayer meeting Tonight! 7pm

2) This Sunday we are beginning to accept donations for the Shoebox ministry.

3) Oct. 29th is Trunk or Treat. Be sure to spread the Word and to sign up to participate. It begins at 5pm and around 6pm we will share the gospel and eat hot dogs. Pray that God will use this event to reach others for Jesus. Last year's Trunk or Treat brought Markelli, Zeb and the boys to our church. Praise the Lord.

4) May the Grace of God fuel your Faith in Him today. Praying that you get the chance to tell others about Jesus and then Invite them to Church today. We are up to 1672. That's 128 away from our Goal. We can easily make that goal this month.

Love, Serve, Go
