Becoming a better listener

Church Family,

During my worship time this weekend I read something that I can’t help but share.

Jeremiah 35:15 I have sent to you all my servants the prophets, sending them persistently, saying, ‘Turn now every one of you from his evil way, and amend your deeds, and do not go after other gods to serve them, and then you shall dwell in the land that I gave to you and your fathers.’ But you did not incline your ear or listen to me.

God is speaking to us persistently. Sending us the message that we need to be closest to Him. If we would only listen. How do you become a better listener?

First, spend time with God in His word.

Second, pray over what you have read and dwell on it throughout the day.

Third, trial and error through acts of Faith. Paul says it this way:

Ephesians 5:10 and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord.

Commit to living out what you read. When God points you in a different direction, be quick to turn to it. You are in a relationship with God. Relationships take time and effort. Know that God has spared no expense to save you and be known by you. Give your all to Him.

Ephesians 5:15-17 Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise,16 making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

Fourth, repeat steps 1 thru 3. (A good help is to join a small group, Sunday school class, bible study, etc. Seek the advice of others)

  1. Tonight, we get to decorate for Christmas at 6pm. Come out and join us. Just as we preached last night, maybe your presence will make the difference. Come practice your Spiritual gift. (Food will be served)
  2. Tuesday at 6pm the Community Thanksgiving Service will be hosted by Juniper Bay. Please bring a dessert.
  3. No services this Weds night.
  4. Cold weather clothing drive ends this Sunday.
  5. The angel tree begins this Sunday. Come pick out a family with your family. We will take up an offering for those who are unable to go shopping but are willing to help those who will on December 3rd.
  6. I am praying for you today. May God make His voice clear to you as you practice your Faith each day.

To Free or Capture Slaves?

Church Family,

I am praying for you today. My Bible reading this morning reminded of how easy it is for us to be moved for a moment to trust God, but when the going gets tough when return to our former ways. We often tell the world bible verses, but with our lives we proclaim that believe in God, yet we fail to trust in God.

Are there areas in your life that you know what you should do, but sin has so lied to you, that you dont think you can live without it?

Jeremiah 34:10 And they obeyed, all the officials and all the people who had entered into the covenant that everyone would set free his slave, male or female, so that they would not be enslaved again. They obeyed and set them free. 11But afterward they turned around and took back the male and female slaves they had set free, and brought them into subjection as slaves.

v14‘At the end of seven years each of you must set free the fellow Hebrew who has been sold to you and has served you six years; you must set him free from your service.’ But your fathers did not listen to me or incline their ears to me.

What's so painful about this passage is that if they would have obeyed God, they would've had an easy presentation of the gospel to the world around them. Sin has enslaved you, but we were sent by God to free the slave. No where in scripture is slavery seen as good, but it is always seen as representing sin and a need to be freed by God from it. Because they would not listen, they lost their witness.

Have you lost your witness? Maybe it's how your parents did it and the way their parents did it before them, but that doesnt make it right. Can I challenge you to seek God's forgiveness? Ask God to set you free, so that you might go and help set others free.

1) Praise God! We have over 100 shoeboxes. What a joy it was to see the children and adults working together to advance the gospel Wednesday night. If you missed it, you missed a blessing. If you didnt get a blessing from it, I'm praying for you.

2) Choir Practices this Sunday!

3) Monday we decorate for Christmas at 6pm

4) Tuesday Community Thanksgiving at Juniper Bay at 6pm

5) Winter Clothing drive going on till Nov. 26th

6) Pray for this Sunday's message John 9:1-7 Do you carry the burden of thinking that your sin caused sickness or death? Do you blame others or harbor hate because you believe they caused you pain or sickness? Come see what Jesus says.

Jeremiah 33

Church Family,

Judah and Israel had sinned constantly and were unwilling to repent. Like many people in the world today, they did not believe God’s word or follow it. Yes, the knew the words of God and they used word of God when it benefited them, but as a whole they did not know or love God. Their pride and rebellion lead to God exiling them, but read what God’s purpose was for the exile.

Jeremiah 33:8-9 I will cleanse them from all the guilt of their sin against me, and I will forgive all the guilt of their sin and rebellion against me. 9And this city shall be to me a name of joy, a praise and a glory before all the nations of the earth who shall hear of all the good that I do for them. They shall fear and tremble because of all the good and all the prosperity I provide for it.

Notice, who does the cleansing? Who does the forgiving? Who does the blessing?

Can I lovingly encourage you today to stop trying to change your life? Stop trying to forgive yourself. Stop trusting in your plans to prosper. Now trust in the Lord to do those things, because truth be told, only God can transform you, forgive you, and prosper you. When God does, be sure to let the community hear all the good that God has done for you.

I will put my law within them

Church Family,

In my morning worship I read Jeremiah 31:33-34 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the LORD: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 34And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”

How? How does God put His law within us and write on our hearts? The Bible teaches us that when a person is born again, God Himself, Holy Spirit, dwells within the person who has been born again. God Himself teaches us, guides us, and convicts us.

Yet, I can hear satan now, "remember how sinful you use to be," and "there's no way God can use you." Look at the end of verse 34. God will remember their sin no more. In another verse in the Bible God says that He casts our sin as far as the east is from the west. Does this mean that God does not know about our sin? No, it means that He know longer holds it against us.

What is God telling you this morning? What has He written on your heart lately? How often do you hear satan speaking accusations rather than hearing God speaking His love over you?

1) Thank you. Our family can not put into words our appreciation and joy that your prayers, phone calls, and presence last night meant to us. High Point was the talk of the town last night because of its strong showing of love for our family at the funeral home.

2) Tuesday at 11:30 is the Senior Thanksgiving Luncheon

3) Wednesday at 7pm we are using our time together to help put together shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. If you have any leftover shoeboxes that are unused please bring them. We believe we have enough toys to make another 75 boxes, but need about 15 more empty shoeboxes.

Jeremiah 29:11 God's real plan

Church Family,

We love Jeremiah 29:11, but we often forget the context of it. By the way, you need to read the entire chapter, it is awesome.

In Jeremiah 29:23 because they have done an outrageous thing in Israel, they have committed adultery with their neighbors’ wives, and they have spoken in my name lying words that I did not command them. I am the one who knows, and I am witness, declares the LORD.’”

Yes, God has a plan, but it is to change the adulterous and lying people of God. How often do people lie about what God said or didn’t say? Did you know the divorce rate in the church is the same as the world’s? What a shame.

We love Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

The idea that God has a plan for us, gives us comfort, strength, and encouragement, but Why did God say this? The answer is found in verses 12-14 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. 13You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. 14I will be found by you, declares the LORD, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and all the places where I have driven you, declares the LORD, and I will bring you back to the place from which I sent you into exile.

God’s plan was a 70 year plan to make His people more like Him and abandon the lies, cheating, and idolatrous living they were currently doing. God’s plan for your life is the same. It is to call you to turn from your sin and turn to Jesus for forgiveness and salvation. This is called repentance.

Can I lovingly ask you today to see God’s plan for your life as not being about making the best you, but to reveal the best of Him to the world through you.
