The Fake Heaven

Church Family,

During my worship time this morning I read this:

Revelation 18:2-3

And he called out with a mighty voice,

“Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great!
She has become a dwelling place for demons,
a haunt for every unclean spirit,
a haunt for every unclean bird,
a haunt for every unclean and detestable beast.
3For all nations have drunk
the wine of the passion of her sexual immorality,
and the kings of the earth have committed immorality with her,
and the merchants of the earth have grown rich from the power of her luxurious living.”

I dont understand it all, but of the many questions I have this one sticks out the most today. Why would God have so much wrath towards a single city? Everything about sin is a fake. It's a lie, a scheme, a distraction. This city became the place that influences the people, cities, lifestyles, politics, money and rewards of Earth. It was the fake heaven. In a single day it will be destroyed and the people will weep over it. Do you fall victim or willingly follow after the passions of this world? Is there any other place that you would rather be than in the presence of God? Is their any relationship, valuable, lifestyle, etc. that you put before the Lord? Have you missed the mark? Are you living in Sin? Please I beg you turn to Jesus.

What is God saying to you this morning through your devotion time with Him?

Revelation 16

Church Family,

My time with God today is hard to put into words. He showed up in such a sweet way. Today, God's Word proclaimed so many deep truths.

Revelation 16:5-7

And I heard the angel in charge of the waters say, Just are you, O Holy One, who is and who was,
for you brought these judgments.
6For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets,
and you have given them blood to drink.
It is what they deserve!” 7And I heard the altar saying, “Yes, Lord God the Almighty,
true and just are your judgments!”

As God is pouring out His wrath, He stops to let the world know that what He is doing is Just and true. In other words we deserve what we get when we rebel against God and God is doing the right thing by pouring out His wrath.

Revelation 16:9 and 10 both say this about the people, They did not repent and give him glory.

At the heart of a believers life is not that they are better, but that they have repented and given God the glory. To Repent means to turn from our sin and to Jesus. Many will turn from their sin, but few turn from their sin and to Jesus. Why? Because we dont want to give God the Glory of saving us and we don't believe that what God is doing is Just and right.

The beauty of what happens when we believe in Jesus as our Lord and Savior is that we dont get what we deserve. We deserve an eternity separated from God in Hell, but the believer gets an eternity with God. If you haven't given God praise today please do so. To Him be the Glory.

Love, Serve, Go

Baby eating Dragon

Church Family,

A good rule of thumb to follow when reading your bible is to focus on what you understand, but strive to learn what you don’t. Don’t get defeat by what you can’t grasp. Celebrate what you do because that is a gift from God. Revelation 12 reads like an action-packed movie.

Revelation 12:10-11 And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God. 11And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death.

  1. Satan is constantly accusing us.
  2. Satan is partially correct. We have sinned against God.
  3. Satan is completely wrong. There is salvation, power, authority in Christ to conquer our sin and our accuser.
  4. How do we conquer sin and satan? By the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony.
  5. What is our testimony? That Jesus died for our sins, was buried and rose again. He is more precious to us that our own lives or anything else that is created.

Satan’s accusations seem to be based on the idea that we love something us more than God. To overcome that will you take time today to value the greatness of God today. Value God above all things, all desires, all wants, and all needs.

7 churches, 7 callings, 1 Lord and Savior

Church Family,

Have you spent time with God today? How do you know what you should or shouldn't do today? Are you doing things and hoping that God will bless it or is God blessing you to go and do things?

This week I began reading in Revelation. In Seminary I took a class on the book of Revelation. A great tool to use when studying it is to write down 20 observations or questions for each chapter. I promise this will help you tremendously. In chapters 2 and 3 we see letters to 7 churches. Here is one of the many observations that you can get from reading those chapters. Every church has the same savior, but every church has a specific calling.

What is your calling? What is our church's calling?

Revelation 2:7 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers I will grant to eat of the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.

Revelation 3:22 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.

Why some churches die

Church Family,

During my devotions today I read something very troubling.

Revelation 2:4-5 But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first5Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent.

They abandoned evangelism. They knew how to do church and tell others how to live, but did not share the gospel. Their knowledge of God did not draw them to the lost who needed the gospel. They used their knowledge to falsely justify not going to the lost with the gospel.

Repent or I (Jesus) will remove your lampstand.

Revelation 1:20 As for the mystery of the seven stars that you saw in my right hand, and the seven golden lampstands, the seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches.

Without their repentance, Jesus is going to remove this church. Why? They will not evangelize. I pray that no church becomes like this, but sadly most would rather see souls go to Hell, their children included, rather than make evangelism a priority.
