Stopping Others From Worshipping

Church Family,

Matthew 26:7-8 a woman came up to him with an alabaster flask of very expensive ointment, and she poured it on his head as he reclined at table. 8And when the disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, “Why this waste?

  1. I must confess there have been times that I let my pride and fear of what others think about me limit how I worship God. The Spirit was leading me to pour out my affections on Jesus, but what would others say?
  2. I must also confess there are times where I have questioned the true worship of others. Maybe it was jealousy, maybe entitlement, I mean if God was going to use someone to worship it had to be me first and then others, right?
  3. In both case I sinned greatly against God and His people. In both cases I hurt the body of Christ. In the first I grieved the Spirit by disobeying His leading me to worship. In the second I quenched the Spirit by falsely judging another person’s worship.
  4. There will always be people who will question your worship of God. Don’t let them discourage you. The saddest part about this is that the ones who often discouraging our worship are the leaders of the church or at least those that we give leadership to.

Can I encourage you today to take some time and praise God? Pour out your love and appreciate for who He is and what He has done for you. Can I also encourage you to spend some time confessing your sin of grieving and quenching the Spirit if it is needed?

How will Jesus find me?

Church Family,

There have been 2 themes that I’ve been dwelling on recently and hope to share in more detail about in the coming months. 1) The Potential of the Gospel: who can’t it change and what situation can’t it solve. 2) The second coming of Jesus: How would my life change if I lived as if today is the last day I can tell others about Jesus?

Matthew 24:45-51 Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his master has set over his household, to give them their food at the proper time? 46Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes. 47Truly, I say to you, he will set him over all his possessions. 48But if that wicked servant says to himself, ‘My master is delayed,’ 49and begins to beat his fellow servants and eats and drinks with drunkards, 50the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know 51and will cut him in pieces and put him with the hypocrites. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Can I encourage you to pray about the Potential of the Gospel? How would your life change if you viewed the gospel as the most powerful and needed message in the world? Will you pray that God would grip my heart and yours if you desire with the truth that Jesus is coming back? How would these 2 things change your life or the life of your church if you applied them daily to your life?

Do as I say, not as I do

Church Family,

I want to thank everyone who helped make the mission trip possible. Thank you to those who prayed, gave, and went with us in Spirit and body. My hope is that God will use this experience to transform our church.

One of the questions that was asked of me on the trip that I can’t shake was how do you witness to those that are caught in a particular sin(I will omit the specific sin they mentioned)?

Matthew 23:3 so do and observe whatever they tell you, but not the works they do. For they preach, but do not practice.

Matthew 23:28 So you also outwardly appear righteous to others, but within you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

With our preaching and teaching we proclaim that God loves everyone and can save anyone, but so often with our actions we show the difference between what God has said and what we really believe. We will proclaim that we are created in God’s image, but then act as if one race is better than another. We will proclaim the world’s need for salvation, but then act as if no one is worthy of the gospel that we have been entrusted with.

Church, Believer, I hope that we will stop caring so much about how we are viewed by the world and begin to care about the things of eternity. May we see sin as it really is and the Gospel as the greatest message ever told. May the tongue of our mouths and the tongues of shoes go in the same direction. If we really want to reach the world for Christ then we must do as God has said, Go and make disciples baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Spirit.

Who can you share the gospel with today?

*** To those who have kindly asked about the blog, we have been away on a mission trip and I did not wish to announce to the world our absence from our homes. I hope that you understand and I appreciate you taking the time to read this.***

Family Church

Church Family,

Please Pray for VBS tonight. I am so thankful to the teachers and leaders who have been sharing the gospel constantly throughout the week. Tonight, we will specifically talk with the older kids and present the gospel again. Pray that the lost will be saved and the saved will be drawn closer to God.

I can recall sharing the gospel with a grown(40+) man several years ago. His mother was in the room at the time as well. When I asked the man what the Lord was telling him, the mother quickly jumped in. She exclaimed that her son had been baptized as a little boy and didn’t need the gospel. My heart broke. Here was a man that rarely came to church, was caught up in sin, and was trained to live that way from his so called Christian mother.

Matthew 10:37-39 Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

I will never be worthy of the gospel. None of us are. In my quiet time today, the Lord impressed upon my heart a deep sadness for situations similar to the one I mentioned above. That sadness spread when I considered how many “family churches” are willing to allow their family members to openly sin and go to Hell for ETERNITY rather than love God more. How often do we keep quiet about the sin of dear cousin, aunt, uncle, close friend, grandpa, husband, etc.? How often do we allow the future generations to hurt because we don’t love God more than keeping family peace? I often use the excuse of how unworthy I am, so how can I dare help someone else. The sad thing is, I never use that excuse when I see my kids acting out or if someone is causing pain to my life, but in the church…. I use it all the time. Lord, forgive me. Forgive us. I pray that somehow that man came to know Jesus as his savior and the mom too.

Reminder:

  1. Pray for the gospel to be boldly and clearly spoken and received tonight. Pray for Gayle and the other leaders by name. Only 2 nights left, 6-8:30pm
  2. Glory Train in concert this Sunday at 6pm.

The Lord of the Harvest

Church Family,

Day 1 of VBS was a great success. Today I am praying for you by name and as a group. Asking that God will give the opportunity to share the gospel with co-workers and VBS attenders. Hoping that the Lord will make your work day a joy and not a burden. May He give you strength and energy!

Matthew 9:36-38 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; 38 therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”

There is no shortage of those who do not know Jesus as Lord. We as believers need to pray that God will send us and more to reach those without Christ. While the group Christ is seeing is probably being harassed and are helpless, we also need to remember that this is the spiritual state of anyone without Jesus today. Rather than seeing them as enemies or people who don’t deserve the gospel, see them as they are. Being harassed and helpless against the sin that is blinding them from seeing Christ. See them the way someone once saw you before they shared the gospel with you.

Reminders:

  1. VBS Continues tonight from 6pm-8:30pm. Come be rescued by Jesus with us.
  2. Glory Train in Concert Sunday June 24th at 6pm
