Salvation is coming!

Church Family,

Graduate Sunday is upon us. This Sunday we will celebrate the accomplishments of this year’s graduating class during the 11am service. I ask that you be in prayer for these in the coming months.

Zechariah 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

How wonderful it must have been to hear these words for the first time! Salvation is coming, but when He came the people weren’t ready. The wisemen were and had been watching but while the scholars knew of the time, they weren’t looking for Him. I fear that we are making the same mistake today. The words of Christ that He would return quickly have worn off on us. With each passing day we act as if He is never coming. A greater fear of mine is that this will cause the world to see the coming of Jesus, but not respond to it by Faith. If the people Jesus is coming back for don’t act like it, then how can we expect the lost world to believe it?

Reminders:

  1. Prayer Walking this Sunday at 5:30pm.
  2. Visitation Monday at 5:30, going out at 6:15 to invite others to VBS.
  3. VBS begins June 17th-21st.

Let Others See Jesus in You!

Church Family,

God is so good to us! I am praying for you today. Praying that God will allow you to freely share your faith, give you a bold Spirit, and that others will hear and see Jesus in you.

Zechariah 8:23 Thus says the LORD of hosts: In those days ten men from the nations of every tongue shall take hold of the robe of a Jew, saying, ‘Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.

In chapter 8 God is restoring the Jewish people and their cities. It is amazing to think of God’s blessings and presence being all over the people of God in such a way that the lost seek Him through them. Think about it this way, when you are sick who or what do you seek out? Think of those that are hurting and broken today in the world. Are you living with Jesus in such a way that they would seek you out for guidance?

God gives several prescriptions for His people in this passage for how they should live.

  • V13…..so will I save you, and you shall be a blessing. Fear not, but let your hands be strong.”
  • V15…. fear not.
  • V16-17 Speak the truth to one another; render in your gates judgments that are true and make for peace; 17do not devise evil in your hearts against one another, and love no false oath
  • V19….The fast…..seasons of joy and gladness and cheerful feasts….love truth and peace

Don’t be afraid, be bold. Don’t sacrifice holiness to please the world, be open and honest. Don’t live in your strength, Pray, Fast, and Seek God!

God's Word Prevails

Church Family,

I am so glad that you are reading this. The this I’m referring to is the bible passage, not my commentary. Read why.

Zechariah 1:2-6 “The LORD was very angry with your fathers. 3Therefore say to them, Thus declares the LORD of hosts: Return to me, says the LORD of hosts, and I will return to you, says the LORD of hosts. 4Do not be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets cried out, ‘Thus says the LORD of hosts, Return from your evil ways and from your evil deeds.’ But they did not hear or pay attention to me, declares the LORD. 5Your fathers, where are they? And the prophets, do they live forever? 6 But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my servants the prophets, did they not overtake your fathers? So they repented and said, ‘As the LORD of hosts purposed to deal with us for our ways and deeds, so has he dealt with us.’”

I’m so glad you are reading God’s word because the words and deeds of man will vanish, but the Word of God will never fade away. Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

What saddens me about this passage is the eternal consequences that the people are unwilling to hear or pay attention to face. God’s word and power has always prevailed. Maybe not over your life now, but for eternity it will. Believers since eternity hangs in the balance for so many, we must be diligent to share the gospel.

Complacency: God does no Good or Bad

Church Family,

I’m looking forward to prayer meeting tonight. I hope that you all can join us at 7. A prayerless life is a life that doesn’t believe it needs God. This kind of life always operates in its own strength and ability.

Zephaniah 1:12 At that time I will search Jerusalem with lamps, and I will punish the men who are complacent, those who say in their hearts, ‘The LORD will not do good, nor will he do ill.’

God tells the people that He will search with lamps. We often hide in the dark secret places of our houses the things that we don’t want others to see. God is letting the people know that He is not like man. You can’t hide anything from God. He will go into the dark and expose our wickedness.

What are the people hiding in the dark? A heart that trusts in itself. You may can hide your sin from others, but it will always produce bad fruit. In this case that fruit is Complacency.

The people didn’t trust in the power of God, nor did they fear God’s judgement. This same evil spirit is often present today. We trust in our wisdom, strength, and ability and ignore that Faith calls on us to trust in the power of God. This week I read that one of the main factors in the expansion of Christianity was the truth that Christ is coming back at any moment. The early believer took seriously the truth that they will be judged for what they did with the gospel.

Do you live a life that doesn’t fear God’s judgement? Do you believe that God doesn’t mind if you don’t share the gospel? Do you think that the One who gave His one and only Son doesn’t mind it if you are complacent and living for this world and not for eternity?

How much of what you do can only be done if God intervenes? Are you living a life that avoids the world doing ill to you or in a way that fears the ill that God brings?

Can I encourage to beginning praying in a way that changes who you are and not who God is or His plans? Pray for weakness in self and strength in God.

Oh, the conviction that this brings to my heart. Pray for me and I will pray for you!

Reminders:

  1. Join us Sunday at 5:30pm to prayer walk a local community.
  2. Graduate Sunday is June 3rd.
  3. VBS in June 17th-21st. Pray for the power of God to be present before, during, and after VBS. May souls get saved and God’s people be faithful.
  4. Glory Train in Concert June 24th at 6pm.

Beautiful feet

Church Family,

Praise the Lord for His blessings! Yesterday marked the third week in a row that we’ve had a baptismal service and 7th person baptized this calendar year.

Nahum 1:15a Behold, upon the mountains, the feet of him who brings good news

Isaiah 52:7a How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news

Feet are nasty. Now add dirt, grim, and whatever else people stepped in back then. There is no way you would say that feet were beautiful. So, what makes feet beautiful? The message that they bring. There is no greater message than the gospel which literally means “good news.” Believers, we have the One message that every person needs to hear. Not everyone needs money, clothes, etc. but everyone needs the gospel.

Yesterday we began prayer walking a neighborhood. God allowed one group to already build a relationship with a family. We will continue to walk the same area for the next 3 Sundays at 5:30. We would love to have your beautiful feet join us.

Most of us are going somewhere today. Be sure to take the gospel with you.

Reminders:

  1. A special thanks to the ladies who shared with us this past Sunday morning.
  2. June 3rd graduate service at 11am.
