Swimming with the Fishes

Church Family,

I can’t wait to worship together this Sunday!

I don’t know your situation this morning. Today may be the best day you’ve had in a while or maybe it is one of the worst. If you are struggling today with Sin. Hurting over the mess that you can’t seem to break free from. Maybe you can’t go forward because you still see yourself as full of sin and unusable. Read what God tells us about Himself.

Micah 7:18-20 Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity and passing over transgression for the remnant of his inheritance? He does not retain his anger forever, because he delights in steadfast love. 19He will again have compassion on us; he will tread our iniquities underfoot. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea. 20You will show faithfulness to Jacob and steadfast love to Abraham, as you have sworn to our fathers from the days of old.

Where is your sin believer? What does God delight in? Do you believe Him? Do you believe that your sin is swimming with the fishes? Do you believe that God loves you? He gave His Son to ransom you from sin and death. There is no greater love than the Love that God has for you.

Reminders:

Little Bethlehem

Church Family,

God often uses the little, weak, few, etc. to accomplish His purposes. Part of the reason why He does this is to remove all doubt that it was the work of God and not the works of man.

Micah 5:2-5a But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days. 3Therefore he shall give them up until the time when she who is in labor has given birth; then the rest of his brothers shall return to the people of Israel. 4And he shall stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God. And they shall dwell secure, for now he shall be great to the ends of the earth. 5And he shall be their peace.

Remember it is not the size of your faith, but who your faith is in that matters. Of all the things that God uses to shepherd us, He uses His name. A name? Why not an army, weapon, or something tangible?

Throughout God’s word we are reminded to walk by Faith and not by sight. How often do we make decisions based on our strength, money, abilities, etc.? Trusting in the name of Jesus requires us to humble ourselves and believe that God will provide.

Are you walking by Faith or by Sight? Do you have to know the results before you start something? How do you help other believers walk by Faith?

Beginning this Sunday at 5:30pm we are going to prayer walk a local neighborhood. This is going to require Faith. Our success won’t be based on how many people we talk to or how many start coming to church because of this. Our success will be in our faithfulness to follow the Lord.

Reminders:

  1. Tonight is Prayer Meeting at 7pm.
  2. May 20th at 5:30pm Prayer Walking
  3. June 3rd Graduate Service at 11am. Please give a baby/early child pic, older child pic, and a cap and gown/senior pic to Terri or Andi.
  4. June 17th-21st VBS daily from 6pm to 8:30pm.

Inward Focus

Church Family,

This Sunday we are going to begin prayer walking a neighborhood. This neighborhood has a high percentage of people who do not know Jesus as Lord. Why? Why prayer walk? Any time a church is not focus on Christ in a way that points them to reach the next generation(children/youth) and those outside the church, that church is focused on itself. It is all about them and not about Christ.

Micah 3:5 Thus says the LORD concerning the prophets who lead my people astray, who cry “Peace” when they have something to eat but declare war against him who puts nothing into their mouths.

What is the main concern of the prophets? Is it to reach the lost? Minister to the next generation? No, their concern is their comfort. This also became the concern of the people of Israel. They no longer advanced the name of God. They now only cared about what met their physical desires. In fact, they would go so far as to declare that God had given them “Peace”. In other words, don’t worry about reaching others, God is happy with us as long as we are comfortable.

Can I encourage you to search your walk with Christ? Is your walk strongest when you have what you want or when God is leading you? Are you willing to give up physical peace to see others come to Christ? Is “Peace” with others greater than telling others about Jesus? The Jews were united, but their unity wasn’t from God, it was against Him. Is your church willing to leave the 99 and to go find the 1?

Reminders:

  1. A HUGE Thank You to everyone who helped make Mother’s Day so wonderful yesterday!
  2. We begin Prayer Walking Sunday at 5:30pm. More details will come later this week.
  3. Graduate Sunday June 3rd. We are looking for pictures of the graduates. A baby pic, school age, and now or cap and gown pic. See Terri Poston or Andi Brown for more details.

Angry Believers, the Story of Jonah

Church Family,

I’m guilty. I need to share the gospel more often. There are many reasons that we don’t share the gospel as freely as we should. Yet, there is no other message as powerful and true as the gospel, that Jesus died on the cross for our sins, was buried, and rose again on the third day.

Jonah 3:1-2 Then the word of the LORD came to Jonah the second time, saying, 2“Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and call out against it the message that I tell you.”

What is so confusing about the story of Jonah is the reaction of Jonah when the people repent.

Jonah 4:1-4 But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was angry. 2And he prayed to the LORD and said, “O LORD, is not this what I said when I was yet in my country? That is why I made haste to flee to Tarshish; for I knew that you are a gracious God and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, and relenting from disaster. 3Therefore now, O LORD, please take my life from me, for it is better for me to die than to live.” 4And the LORD said, “Do you do well to be angry?”

God has blessed our city with a great revival recently, but not everyone was happy about it. Sadly, I didn’t hear one lost person complain, but I did hear several believers. The saving of a soul is no small feat.

I mean look at the temper tantrum Jonah throws:

V2 “is this not what I said”…… “this is why”  (His arrogance is so great that he attempts to justify his disobedience with the claim to knows better than God).

Do you celebrate the gospel, share the gospel, or allow your future telling skills to hold the gospel back? Does your church?

V3 Take my life from me! Oh, that we would rather give our life to advance the gospel rather than ask God to spare us from the joy of the change that comes with the gospel.

Are you a reluctant follower of Christ? Does your wisdom begin with the worst that could happen or with what God could do through your faithfulness?  I often ask whether I am more afraid of losing people or losing God? Count the cost, start by realizing that God’s presence(which Jonah is fleeing from ch1) is the 1 thing you can’t afford to lose. Are you leaving the 99 for the 1 or are you happy with the 99 and willing to let the 1 go to Hell?

Reminders:

  1. Sunday is Mother’s Day!
  2. Sunday we are dedicating 7 children. This will be at the very beginning of the 11am service.
  3. Graduates please sign up for the June 3rd graduate service by this Sunday.
  4. May 20th we will begin prayer walking a nearby neighborhood at 5:30pm

They Deserve Hell, not the Gospel

Church Family,

Jonah 1:1-3 Now the word of the LORD came to Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, 2“Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and call out against it, for their evil has come up before me.” 3But Jonah rose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the LORD. He went down to Joppa and found a ship going to Tarshish. So he paid the fare and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish, away from the presence of the LORD

What is the story of Jonah about? God has called one of his people, who was created to go and tell about Him, to go and tell the enemy about God. What is the issue with Jonah?

He believes the Ninevites are unworthy of the Gospel or is it deeper? Does it have anything to do with the Ninevites? Isn’t it a matter of his view of God and not the people? I mean at what point are the Ninevites worthy of the gospel or unworthy? The truth is that our reluctance to obey God and share the gospel has little to nothing to do with the people we are unwilling to share with. It has to do with his/our view of God as being unworthy of being shared, unable to save, or causing shame to Jonah’s reputation.

What is your response to the call that God has placed on your life? Do you like Jonah, consider it to be optional?

Can I encourage you with this verse as well, Romans 11:29 For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.

God does not remove His calling on your life. If He has saved you, then He has gifted you to help accomplish the calling He has on your life. I’ve never read of or met a believer whose calling was to not share the gospel.

If you are still unwilling to follow God’s call, please study this passage. See how it causes damage to the lives of those around him, but don’t forget to see the God of grace who pursued Jonah.

Reminders:

  1. Prayer Meeting Tonight at 7pm.
  2. Mother’s Day Celebration this Sunday. We have 7 babies signed up to be dedicated, Praise the Lord!
