God brings Change

Church Family,

I love Matthew 4. It is well known for the temptation of Christ, but what sticks out to me is the amount of change that is happening and the rate in which it is happening. Maybe it’s the Sunday school lesson spilling over into my worship time, but Jesus went from a relatively unknown to a household name in a short time.

Matthew 4:24 So his fame spread throughout all Syria, and they brought him all the sick, those afflicted with various diseases and pains, those oppressed by demons, those having seizures, and paralytics, and he healed them.

Change is difficult. Especially in the church. In part, I believe it is because we know for certain that the gospel, word of God, and God Himself never change. Yet, throughout scripture we see that where the gospel is present, change happens. In this passage Jesus’ ministry changes. 1st he is tempted by satan himself. 2nd he calls others into ministry. Those men had their whole lives changed and soon will have their eternal destination changed. In fact, from this time on, the only constants in their lives are God and change. 3rd where they lived changed. 4th Have you ever thought about the fact that the only ones who don’t change in scripture are the ones that have rejected God?

Can I encourage you today to take some time and reflect on the change that God has brought to your life? Praise Him for His goodness. Let me also encourage you to dream of what God wants your life to look like. Now pray about what kind of change is needed in your life for that to happen. I am so guilty of wanting God to do things in my life without being willing to change for God.

Seeking to Kill Baby Jesus

Church Family,

My thoughts and prayers are with you today. Again we wake to the news that another celebrity has taken their own life. Depression, mental illness, etc. doesn’t discriminate. It doesn’t care if you are rich, poor, old, young, etc. Please seek to find your identity in Christ. Do not neglect to talk with a doctor and others that you can confide in. You are willing to take heartburn medicine or take treatment for other ailments. So, don’t hesitate to seek medicine for mental ailments.

Our reading today takes us into the new testament.

Matthew 2:16 Then Herod, when he saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, became furious, and he sent and killed all the male children in Bethlehem and in all that region who were two years old or under, according to the time that he had ascertained from the wise men.

The lengths that people will go to in order to keep power or have their way never ceases to amaze me. The lengths that we went through to kill Jesus are well recorded but let us not forget that He enter the world with rulers trying to kill Him and left it the same way.

  2. Senior Cookout at the Church Tuesday June 12th at 11:30am

Marriage:Guard your Spirit & remain Faithful

Church Family,

If you have 5-10 minutes go and read through all of Malachi. It is full of great things to learn. I have picked one that most of us will question or fight against, so let me lay out MY intent. I am not writing to those who have been through this, but to those who maybe considering this. We can’t change the past, but we can hope to help keep others from repeating it.

Malachi 2:13-16 And this second thing you do. You cover the LORD’s altar with tears, with weeping and groaning because he no longer regards the offering or accepts it with favor from your hand. 14But you say, “Why does he not?” Because the LORD was witness between you and the wife of your youth, to whom you have been faithless, though she is your companion and your wife by covenant. 15Did he not make them one, with a portion of the Spirit in their union? And what was the one God seeking? Godly offspring. So guard yourselves in your spirit, and let none of you be faithless to the wife of your youth. 16“For the man who does not love his wife but divorces her,j says the LORD, the God of Israel, covers his garment with violence, says the LORD of hosts. So guard yourselves in your spirit, and do not be faithless.”

  1. I admit I personally have rules for weddings that I will officiate that are stricter than others. The main reason, God is the witness at each marriage. So, I am careful to not represent God in a way contrary to His Word.
  2. A minister isn’t joining anything together, God is.
  3. The main reason for writing this is to encourage us to Guard our spirit and to remain faithful to God and our spouse. Now I stink at being a husband, so I don’t want to pretend that I can offer good advice. Scripture teaches us that part of the key to a good marriage is not how the other person acts(that matters), but how well we guard our spirits and whether we remain faithful. Those that are unfaithful outwardly began long ago being unfaithful in their spirit.
  4. Some simple advice, Take divorce off the table. If it’s an option, it’s hard not to choose it.
  5. This is not written so we can label or beat down anyone who has been through divorce or was unfaithful. You can’t change the past now, but moving forward you can apply this to your relationship.

Salvation is coming!

Church Family,

Graduate Sunday is upon us. This Sunday we will celebrate the accomplishments of this year’s graduating class during the 11am service. I ask that you be in prayer for these in the coming months.

Zechariah 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

How wonderful it must have been to hear these words for the first time! Salvation is coming, but when He came the people weren’t ready. The wisemen were and had been watching but while the scholars knew of the time, they weren’t looking for Him. I fear that we are making the same mistake today. The words of Christ that He would return quickly have worn off on us. With each passing day we act as if He is never coming. A greater fear of mine is that this will cause the world to see the coming of Jesus, but not respond to it by Faith. If the people Jesus is coming back for don’t act like it, then how can we expect the lost world to believe it?

Reminders:

  1. Prayer Walking this Sunday at 5:30pm.
  2. Visitation Monday at 5:30, going out at 6:15 to invite others to VBS.
  3. VBS begins June 17th-21st.
  4. Glory Train in Concert June 24th at 6pm.

Let Others See Jesus in You!

Church Family,

God is so good to us! I am praying for you today. Praying that God will allow you to freely share your faith, give you a bold Spirit, and that others will hear and see Jesus in you.

Zechariah 8:23 Thus says the LORD of hosts: In those days ten men from the nations of every tongue shall take hold of the robe of a Jew, saying, ‘Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.

In chapter 8 God is restoring the Jewish people and their cities. It is amazing to think of God’s blessings and presence being all over the people of God in such a way that the lost seek Him through them. Think about it this way, when you are sick who or what do you seek out? Think of those that are hurting and broken today in the world. Are you living with Jesus in such a way that they would seek you out for guidance?

God gives several prescriptions for His people in this passage for how they should live.

  • V13…..so will I save you, and you shall be a blessing. Fear not, but let your hands be strong.”
  • V15…. fear not.
  • V16-17 Speak the truth to one another; render in your gates judgments that are true and make for peace; 17do not devise evil in your hearts against one another, and love no false oath
  • V19….The fast…..seasons of joy and gladness and cheerful feasts….love truth and peace

Don’t be afraid, be bold. Don’t sacrifice holiness to please the world, be open and honest. Don’t live in your strength, Pray, Fast, and Seek God!
