How to Stop Revival

Church Family,

Hosea 14:1-4 Return, O Israel, to the LORD your God, for you have stumbled because of your iniquity. 2 Take with you words and return to the LORD; say to him, “Take away all iniquity; accept what is good, and we will pay with bulls
the vows of our lips. 3Assyria shall not save us; we will not ride on horses;
and we will say no more, ‘Our God,’ to the work of our hands. In you the orphan finds mercy.” 4 I will heal their apostasy; I will love them freely, for my anger has turned from them.

APOSTASY - the abandonment or renunciation of a religious or political belief.

The revival winds are blowing strong within our city. Another 114 were saved last night alone bringing the total to 1196. I want to encourage you to bring any and everyone to worship at revival this week. At the heart of revival is when a people realizes they have stumbled because of their sins. They in turn bring their words to God. No longer do they live a religious life, but rather by Faith they call out to God with their words for God to saved them.

I’ve been asked how would this revival ever end? The answer is worth repeating. This revival will stop when “believers” who have renounced their faith in exchange for religion begin to flood the revival and quench the Spirit.

Have you ever accepted your sin? The sins of others? Do you make decisions based on what pleases God or what pleases the people around you? Have you renounced your faith without realizing it?

Let me confess, there are things that I want to criticize about the revival. I would do things differently at times, but that may also be because God didn’t gift me the way He has gifted the leaders of this revival. So, I have a choice, I can quench the Spirit and complain about what I don’t like, OR I can rejoice at what God is doing?

My choice is to rejoice at what God is doing. To see that it is God at work and not the ways of man. Apostasy at its core is when ‘believers’ trust in the way things are done(v3) and not in God’s power. Are we known more for our ways or for seeking God? Do we rejoice at what God is doing in the lives of others?

Reminders:

  1. Prayer meeting tonight for those who aren’t going to the revival.
  2. Women of Joy Conference this weekend. Please be in prayer for these ladies.
  3. Sign-up for Baby Dedication and Graduate Service on the bulletin board.
  4. Gideon Service Sunday morning. We will take up an offering.

Coming Out of Slavery

Church Family,

Praise God for the outpouring of His Spirit yesterday during both services. The Gospel is the most powerful, life changing message in history. We are so excited about those who professed Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

When reading our bible, we should also read it through Jesus. The scriptures testify about Him, John 5:39. If you haven’t already, please go and read through the book of Hosea and see all the references to Jesus.

Hosea 11:1 When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son.

Yes, God is speaking about Israel, but He is also referring to Jesus. If you recall just after the wisemen come God warns Joseph and they move to Egypt. Why? Egypt represents slavery, sin, and bondage. Jesus came to rescue us from slavery, sin, and bondage. Just a big side note, God never approves of slavery. He is constantly seeking to free those who are enslaved.

From Hosea 11 through Hosea 13 God describes a people that kill their children, refuse to follow leadership, reject Him as King, and commits terrible sins, but He closes it with this statement.

Hosea 13:14 I shall ransom them from the power of Sheol; I shall redeem them from Death. O Death, where are your plagues? O Sheol, where is your sting?
Compassion is hidden from my eyes.

Paul quotes this passage in 1 Corinthians 15:54-55.

Who did God give as a ransom? His son, Jesus of Nazareth. What price did He pay? He shed His blood on the Cross where He bared the sins of the world. Jesus died on the cross for our sins, was buried, and rose again on the third day.

Are you enslaved by sin? My friend, God does not wish to leave you in that state. Confess your sin to Him this day. Believe in the One who made a way from sin to grace, wrongdoing to forgiveness, and death to life.

Reminders:

  1. Be in prayer for the Women of Joy Conference this weekend.
  2. Gideon Sunday is this week, May 6th.
  3. Baby Dedication and Graduate Sunday Sign-Up sheets are on the bulletin board.
  4.  VBS June 17th-21st Please let Gayle know that you are ready and willing to serve in anyway that helps the gospel.
  5. Revival begins at 6:30 tonight at Langston Baptist. Nearly 1,100 people have been saved and 100’s more rededicating their lives during this time. Please take your lost friends, family, and strangers. The Gospel changes everything

The Gospel in the Old Testament

Church Family,

Revival is breaking out throughout our area. Over 800 new believers in under 2 weeks of services. Find a way to bring the lost with you to a service. If you can’t attend, please join me in praying that we as believers will do all that we can to not be a hindrance to the services. God allow us to be supportive of the works that you are doing.

The Gospel in its simplest terms is that Jesus died on the cross for our sins according to the scriptures, was buried, and rose again on the 3rd day according to the scriptures(1 Corinthians 15:1-4). There are plenty of places where I can see that Jesus dies for our sins in the Old Testament, but where do we see that He will be raised from the dead? Well, one such place is Hosea:

Hosea 6:1-2 Come, let us return to the LORD; for he has torn us, that he may heal us; he has struck us down, and he will bind us up. 2After two days he will revive us; on the third day he will raise us up, that we may live before him.

God is so good to us. I love that God doesn’t tear us down and leave us that way. I love that He died on the cross for my sins, but also conquered death to give me an eternal hope.

Reminders:

  1. Tonight, the Youth are going to Revival. They will leave at 5:30pm. Please eat before coming. As of last night, there have been over 800 decisions made for Christ.
  2. 5th Sunday Singing at 6pm Sunday night.
  3. Please remember to sign-up for the Baby Dedication Service or Graduate Service this Sunday. We are expecting a large number on both of these lists.
  4. Gideon Service May 6th during the morning service.

The Husband We Need

Church Family,

As a young believer I struggled to read the Old Testament. I literally had to force myself to read through it the first time. What I found was that I couldn’t understand the New Testament without knowing the Old Testament. Hosea is a perfect example of seeing Jesus in the Old Testament.

Hosea 2:16 “And in that day, declares the LORD, you will call me My Husband, and no longer will you call me ‘My Baal.’

Hosea 2:19-20 And I will betroth you to me forever. I will betroth you to me in righteousness and in justice, in steadfast love and in mercy. 20I will betroth you to me in faithfulness. And you shall know the LORD.

Hosea 3:5 Afterward the children of Israel shall return and seek the LORD their God, and David their king, and they shall come in fear to the LORD and to his goodness in the latter days.

Ephesians 5:25-33 describes the Church is the Bride of Christ. This is not a new revelation as you can see. The question that I have is why? Why would God reveal Himself this way? The best answer I can give. God is not using marriage as an example. God created marriage to reveal Himself. Sadly, there is no perfect marriage outside of the one that Christ has with His Bride. His marriage to the Church includes this: Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, 26that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.

All those times that Satan lied and described God has hating you is not true. It’s quite the opposite. Christ loves us and is seeking daily to make us more like Him through His word. Daily Christ is removing any spot, wrinkle, unholiness, and blemishes from our lives.

Revival is breaking out in our city. As many of you have heard on April 15th Langston Baptist began a youth revival. That revival has grown from 200 or so youth to over 1800 people attending last night. There have been 631 salvations during this time. Tonight, we will be praying together as a church for this revival but let me encourage you to attend this revival if possible. Take your lost loved ones. I believe services begin at 6:30pm. If I’ve been told correctly they are praying that they can use the football stadium soon to accommodate the large crowds.

Reminders:

  1. 5th Sunday singing beginning at 6pm this Sunday.
  1. May 4th-6th Women of Joy Conference. May 6th we will have a Gideon speaker that morning and collect an offering.
  1. Graduates and those wishing to Dedicate a child need to sign-up on the Bulletin Board. We need to order certain materials for each event so please help out by signing up early.

Why Cheaters Cheat

Church Family,

Praise God for such a wonderful service yesterday! I am so thankful for the men and women that helped cook, decorate, and clean up for Senior Adult Sunday.

Why? Why did she/he cheat on me? We ask this question hoping that somehow the answer will remove the sting of their infidelity. Rarely do we get the real answer and when we get the real answer, it doesn’t really help us.

Friday, we read about Hosea. A man that God commanded to marry a cheater to put it nicely. It was symbolic of how we cheat on God but what’s at the heart of our cheating on God?

I believe that are at least 2 things and those are found in these verses:

The cause- We have a heart that likes to give credit to creation. We think that the thing/person is the source of what makes us happy. Our belief is that we don’t need God because I can get what I want from somewhere else. In a relationship the cheater, will think that joy comes from the physical acts, looks, feelings, etc. they don’t realize it is the relationship with the person. Bottom line: They are ungrateful.

Hosea 2:5 For their mother has played the whore; she who conceived them has acted shamefully. For she said, ‘I will go after my lovers, who give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, my oil and my drink.’

The lie- God doesn’t provide. By being faithful to God you are missing out. This lie wants to make us believe that we can trust our desires over God’s word. In a relationship, the cheater will believe that they are what’s important. Bottom line: They are the center of attention. It’s them that makes things great. They believe they can create happiness/joy. They honor themselves.

Hosea 2:7b-8 Then she shall say, ‘I will go and return to my first husband,
for it was better for me then than now.’ 8And she did not know that it was I who gave her the grain, the wine, and the oil, and who lavished on her silver and gold, which they used for Baal.

So ladies/guys when they say it’s not about you, its about me. They are right. God is never the cause of our cheating on Him. God also never leaves us.

Take a few moments and examine your pet sin. What is the cause/reason you love it so much? What lie did you fall for? Has that sin ever really delivered all that it claimed it would?

Reminders:

Baptist Women’s Meeting Tonight. Meet at the church by 4:45 or at the County Building Parking Lot by 5:05. If you have questions call Gayle, 843-902-4196
