Church Family,
I hope that all is well. I pray that we get to see you tonight at Prayer meeting. Let me take a moment to thank the Baptist Women for putting together the care packages for the Seniors and Shut-Ins. I also want to thank those that have helped deliver them.
This morning devotion is the 2nd of the series that we will go through until Christmas.
The Virgin Birth
Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel
Matthew 1:18-23 Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. 19And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. 20But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” 22All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet:
23“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,
and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).
Why must Jesus be born of a Virgin?
Genesis 3:15 I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”
Romans 5:12 Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned
1 Corinthians 15:21 For as by a man(ADAM) came death, by a man(JESUS) has come also the resurrection of the dead.
Jesus had to be born of a virgin because through Adam sin and death came into the world. God must take on human flesh and remain God, in order to reconcile the two sides, God and man. If Jesus were not born of the Holy Spirit, but was rather born from a man, then he would have been born a sinner.
Do you ever try to reconcile your problems with God through what you do? Do you feel the weight of your inability to resolve your sin issues? May I encourage you today to trust in Jesus. Trust that He alone can pay the price for your sin. Trust that Jesus desires to deal with you and your sin.
Be like the shepherds and every believer since and tell others what Jesus has done for you.
