Christmas: The Word Became Flesh

Church Family,

Today my daily bible reading was in Lamentations, but since we are approaching the celebration of our Savior’s birth I thought it wise to attempt to write devotions about that. Not to upset anyone or blow anyone’s mind, but December 25th is the day that we celebrate Jesus’ birth. It is not His actual birthday. In fact, we don’t know the exact date of His birth, but sometime in August/September maybe more accurate.

2 Passages to help us set the tone for the coming of Jesus:

Genesis 3:15 I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”

Adam and Eve took this serious and scripture points to Eve implying that Cain was their Savior. No wonder he killed Able. Imagination raising your child to be so entitled that he believes he is the savior of the world?

God would send the offspring of a woman to strike the serpent. Every family would wonder if their child would save them and break the curse of sin, but only one would do this. The mother’s name was Mary, His name is Jesus, and He is born of the Holy Spirit.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Every promise that God made, word He declared, became flesh. Jesus of Nazareth is God in the Flesh. Fully God and Fully Man.

God’s word is alive and it has come to save us from our sins and free us from the curse that sin placed on our lives.

There is no other gift greater than the gift of the Word becoming flesh.

Can I challenge you to dwell on the impact that knowing that the promises of God have come true has on you and the world? Can I challenge you, if you are parent, to realize the danger of raising your child to be above God? We all sadly know that parent that allows their child to rule over them and rule over others. The parent justifies every wrong the child does and rarely corrects them. Why? Because they view the child the same way Eve did Cain, as some sort of false Savior, that is above God. Realize the danger this does to the child and how it keeps them from having a relationship with God.

Reminders:

  1. Tonight is Visitation. 5:30 we are hoping to eat Potato Soup. 6:15 we are going out or writing cards to minister to and encourage others.
  2. Praise God we took up over $500 for families at Christmas. This is in addition to everyone who is helping purchase for families on the angel tree.
  3. Thank you to the Baptist Women for putting together care baskets for Seniors and Shut ins yesterday.
  4. You are being prayed for today. That God would give you a Spirit of boldness and not timidness, courage and not fear, may God order your steps to cross paths with those that need to hear that the Word has become flesh!

Love, Serve, Go
