Is your sin someone's excuse to question God?

Church Family,

Right now, my devotions have me reading through a stretch in Jeremiah where God is announcing Judgment on various people groups. In Jeremiah 48 God is punishing the Moabite people. If you remember, Ruth was a Moabite. They are known for their arrogance and immorality. Read how God describes their sinfulness.

Jeremiah 48:26 “Make him drunk, because he magnified himself against the LORD, so that Moab shall wallow in his vomit, and he too shall be held in derision.

Jeremiah 48:42 Moab shall be destroyed and be no longer a people,
because he magnified himself against the LORD.

God’s judgement is upon them because they magnified themselves against the Lord. What does that mean? An example would be that they lived before others in a way that caused others to question God. People saw that they were getting away with their sin. So, they began to live like the Moabites. We are living in a world now that is very similar. People think that just because they can do something, then they should do something. They magnify themselves against God. We often think of them as being cool, hip, progressive, etc., but we forget too quickly that God is the judge and not man.

Have you ever thought that your sin would cause others to challenge God’s authority? Or even abandon God all together?
