John 6:53-59
Description

These are the Pastor's Note, Not a word for word copy of the sermon.

  1. Must see Him by Faith in the Spiritual context

Here is a crowd that is unwilling to follow Christ, but Jesus doesn’t stop trying. He keeps saying the same truth in a slightly different manor over and over. Jesus is using these horrific statements to send the people into shock. Does Jesus really mean they must be cannibals? Absolutely not.

Jesus in His genius, God, statements is getting them to see beyond the flesh of Jesus. He doesn’t mean to literal eat His flesh or drink His blood.

What really matters isn’t the dirt that God created, formed and breathed into. What really matters is the God that made the dirt, man, and heaven.

  1. What Jesus came to do. – An example of obedience – a payment for sin

Man doesn’t live off of Bread alone, but off the very Word of God. Jesus is pointing to the truth that He is the Word of God become flesh. We need Him to have life and life everlasting.

Philippians 2:8-11 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. 9Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:10That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;11And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Genesis 9:4 But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.

Leviticus 17:11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.

  1. To transform us, beginning with our appetite.
    1. V53 He says eats- Salvation
    2. V54 and 56 He says feeds- Sanctification, becoming like Jesus
  2. Abide in Jesus as He abides in the Father.
    1. They are in a desolate place. He has asked Philip who is from the area. Knowing that Philip would create a strategy when what Philip needs is God.
    2. Church I want you to know that our nation and even our church is in a desolate place right now. We can search for strategies but they wont work. We need God to fall on this place.
    3. We could get new leadership, but look at this passage. They are still following the leadership of Moses. Yet when Moses was there they didn’t follow him. Even if God shows up in the flesh they aren’t going to follow. It’s not always about the leadership its about needing God and rejecting God.
  3. Our life is Christ.v57
  4. One last plea for them to see the Truth, the Word has become Flesh, Believe, take and eat.
  5. This is to the religious people and its leaders of the day. Remember always, it’s not what you believe in that saves you, it’s who you believe in that saves you.
    1. Church if we would fall on our face this morning and realize what we need today is God to show up. What a difference that would make.
