Abraham's New Year

Church Family,

Happy New Year! Today is the end of a year and tomorrow being a day of new beginnings. In Genesis 17, both Abraham and Sarah are told that the upcoming year is going to change the history of the world. Their names will change, they will have a child, and the men will be circumcised.

Genesis 17:1-2 When Abram was ninety-nine years old the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am God Almighty; walk before me, and be blameless, 2that I may make my covenant between me and you, and may multiply you greatly.”

As you consider the changes that you are going to make this year. Can I encourage you to prayerfully dwell on this? We often focus on walking before God and being blameless and we should. We absolutely need to pursue holiness.

I want to encourage you to focus on the most important part, I may make. God is the One that makes the covenant. When you read the rest of the chapter, we find that God will make and do all that is needed to make the covenant.

Do you trust that God can do what His word demands of us? Do believe that the only way we can walk before the Lord is that He makes this possible? So often we present the Old Testament as being about the Law and the New Testament being about Grace, but in actuality, the entire bible is about God’s Grace. The Grace of God makes our holiness possible, the grace of God helps us to walk and live blamelessly through Christ.

This year focus more on what God can do and less on what you haven’t been able to do.

Love, Serve, Go
