What’s in an announcement? Today we like to announce things in style. Whether we pop a balloon filled with blue or pink powder or blow something up to show whether it’s a boy or girl baby. We have sky writing. Banners, websites, instagrams, etc. we love to announce things. What if you had announced for 6,000 years the birth of your son? This morning church, we are announcing the birth and second coming of Jesus!

ANNOUNCE IT EARLY- save the date

The Messiah would be the seed/offspring of a woman and would crush the head of Satan

(Genesis 3:15) And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

He would come from the seed/offspring of Abraham and would bless all the nations on earth

(Genesis 12:3) And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

ANNOUNCE IT OFTEN Cartoon of the wisemen, it wasn’t in the bulletin

He would be born in Bethlehem of Judah

(Micah 5:2) But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

He would be born of a virgin

(Isaiah 7:14) Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel

He would have a throne, a kingdom and a dynasty, or house, starting with King David, that will last forever

(2 Samuel 7:16) And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.

He would be called “Wonderful Counselor,” “Mighty God,” “Everlasting Father,” “Prince of Peace,” and would possess an everlasting kingdom

(Isaiah 9:6-7) For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. 7Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

ANNOUNCE THE PURPOSE- woman who’s father died, she needed to know the gender, we need to know what Christ came to do.

He would be pierced for our transgression and crushed for our iniquities

(Isaiah 53:5) But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

He would die among the wicked ones but be buried with the rich

(Isaiah 53:9) And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.

He would be resurrected from the grave, for God would not allow His Holy One to suffer decay

(Psalm 16:10) For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

ANNOUNCE THE FUTURE BENEFITS- it’s one thing to get invited to the wedding, but even better to get invited to the feast afterwards

He would come again from the clouds of heaven as the Son of Man

(Daniel 7:13-14) I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.

He would be the “Sun of Righteousness” for all who revere Him and look for His coming again

(Malachi 4:2) But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.

He is the One whom Israel will one day recognize as the One they pierced, causing bitter grief

(Zechariah 12:10) And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn

Charles Swindoll tells the story of a man named George that he worked with in a dirty machine shop. George was a devote believer and often sang hymns as he worked.

One day it was close to quitting time and Charles kept asking George if he was ready, George said yep. But George was filthy, he wasn’t ready, finally George said I’m always ready to go home. He unzipped his coveralls and underneath were the cleanest, neatest clothes he had. He told Charles, I am always ready to go home with Jesus

Are you ready?
