Jesus is Coming

Church Family,

When people don’t have hope despair will soon consume them. I mentioned yesterday that the early church was fueled by many things. One of those was this truth. Jesus is coming back. Each day they lived as if Christ was returning. Each day they furiously shared the gospel and sought the holiness of God in their lives.

Revelation 22:7 And behold I am coming soon. Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.

Our hope is coming soon. This should thrill and excite every believer. Our hope is Jesus. Soon and very soon He going to return. This is great news for every believer, but terrible news for those who do not believe. Christian, we have a cure for something that is worse than cancer. Can I encourage you today to share the cure for sin and death to those that you encounter?

What a Difference Jesus Makes

Church Family,

What a difference Jesus makes.

Revelation 21:7-8 The one who conquers will have this heritage, and I will be his God and he will be my son. 8But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”

I don’t know about you but if I’m transparent here, v8 describes me. Cowardly, there have been plenty of times where I backed away from decisions due to a fear of what others would say or do. Faithless, how often have I walked by sight rather than by faith? Detestable, CHECK, murderer, CHECK, sexually immoral, CHECK…. You get the point. God is describing me.

BUT what a difference Jesus makes. It is Christ who overcame sin and death. It is Christ would shed His blood of the cross, His works, not mine that conquered all. Because of His works and His promise to forgive I am a part of V7 and not V8. Praise be God!

Reminders:

  1. December 12th Church Christmas Party at 6pm. Bring a dessert please and be dress to meet a certain guest.
  2. December 23rd Adult Christmas Program at 11am and the Youth and Children Program at 6pm. Bring refreshments for a time of fellowship that night.
  3. Prayer Pals- we need parents to sign their children up to become a prayer pal with an adult. We also need more adults. What better way can we grow our future disciples than to pray for them and teach them how to pray for others.
  4. Bless Every Home- We will learn more about this Sunday. This is a program that will give you 5 people a day to pray for that live in your neighborhood. It is a great tool to pray for your community and neighbors.

Slow of Heart

Church Family,

Are you ever a slow spiritual learner? This has nothing to do with your mental or physical abilities, but has more to do with a hard, stubborn heart. Difficult times do not build character so much as they reveal the character that you already have.

Revelation 16:9 They were scorched by the fierce heat, and they cursed the name of God who had power over these plagues. They did not repent and give Him glory.

This pattern continues throughout the chapter. God’s judgement and the people’s unwillingness to turn to Him. I am shocked at how someone could go through such trouble and then turn around and reject God. Yet, this is my heart’s story often. I often complain about the One in control rather than humbling myself and pleading for forgiveness.

My prayer this Sunday is that through God’s word we will see how to overcome a hard heart that is in bondage to sin. You maybe battling a sin that has plagued you for decades or it has recently become and issue. We will see how prayer can help us battle against our sinfulness.

Reminders:

  1. Thank you to everyone who helped make last night such a huge success. It was amazing to see so many quickly jump into action and serve!
  2. Tonight at 5:30 food will be ready. Once we have eaten, we will begin to decorate for Christmas. If you can’t make it by 5:30 just come on when you can. The food will still be warm.
  3. The children are going to be practicing for their Christmas play while we decorate.
  4. Lottie Moon Christmas Offering begins in December
  5. December 12th Church Christmas Party

People of Praise

Church Family,

Praise the Lord our final shoebox count was 152! That is an amazing display of giving and love from the church. Pray that God will use each box to bring a child, family, and village to Christ.

I failed to mention yesterday that we received another card of thanks from someone that we fed a bag lunch to on Lee’s Landing. I am so thankful for everyone who helped serve those who were in need.

Revelation 15:3-4 And they sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying,

“Great and amazing are your deeds,
O Lord God the Almighty!
Just and true are your ways,
O King of the nations!
4Who will not fear, O Lord,
and glorify your name?
For you alone are holy.
All nations will come
and worship you,
for your righteous acts have been revealed.”

We want to be a people of Prayer, God’s Word, and Praise! We don’t have to wait to get to heaven before we start Praising God. We can practice for eternity every day here on earth. Sing your Praise to God today. Share with others about His goodness and victory over sin and death.

Reminders:

  1. Tuesday at 6pm Community Thanksgiving Service
  2. Weds night we are decorating the church for Christmas. We will start eating at 5:30. During this time the children will be practicing for their play.
  3. December 12th at 6pm Church Christmas Party

Drinking After Death

Church Family,

Sunday morning our message is going to be about change. Have you ever had a Saul(Paul) moment where God seemed to knock you off of your high horse? Maybe for years you held to a certain belief, but now God seems to be challenging it and revealing the error in your previous thinking. What you believe may have been right, but how you lived it and the context through which you presented it was wrong.

Sometimes the change is more subtle. It may not be that we were doing or thinking wrong, but that we didn’t fully grasp what was going on.

In my bible reading this morning I came across this nugget. Have you ever wondered why Christ asked the Father, “to take this cup away from me?”

Revelation 14:10-11 he also will drink the wine of God’s wrath, poured full strength into the cup of his anger, and he will be tormented with fire and sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. 11And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever, and they have no rest, day or night, these worshipers of the beast and its image, and whoever receives the mark of its name.”

Christ drank the wrath of God. Those who refuse to believe in Him as Lord and Savior will drink of it as well. For them, it will be an everlasting drink. Isn’t that sad. The friends who can’t wait to drink with their buddies when they reach Hell, will in fact get to drink, but not the kind they wanted.

We must be changed believer. We must be transformed from self-centered sinners to outward gospel telling believers. Our hearts must break for what breaks God’s. We must give all that we have in order to reach any and all for Jesus.

Reminders:

  1. Sunday- We will be signing children and adults up for Prayer Pals
    1. We will take up an offering to help families at Christmas
    2. We will have a mission trip meeting about Toronto and Shelby, NC
    3. We will pack up the shoeboxes to be sent off
  2. Nov. 20th we will host the Community Thanksgiving Service at 6pm. If you are available, we will need many to help serve while here.
