Supplements aren't a substitute

Church Family,

They say you can’t out work your diet when trying to lose weight. Your exercise/workout supplements your weight loss, but proper eating is the most important part. Some even use supplements to help burn fat, curb hunger, or gain muscle.

God has given us supplements for our Faith.

2 Peter 1:5-9 For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, 6and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness,7and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. 8For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins.

I’ve met a lot of people who have all of the supplements but no Faith. They are “good” people(although no one is good, no not one- Romans 3:9-10). When we trust in the supplements, but lack the foundation we are doing it for nothing. We can become discouraged, worn down, or worse, we could remain lost and spent eternity separated from God. The bible tells us that we are saved by grace through Faith, it is not of works.

Can I encourage you to supplement your Faith, but never value the supplement over your Faith?

Reminders:

  1. Prayer meeting tonight. We need your help after the service to help setup for Homecoming! This is a church event, so we need the whole church to help.
  2. Homecoming this Sunday with Lanier Singleton. We are taking a church family picture immediately after the service. Also bring lunch with you.

Surprise the World

Church Family,

Thank you to everyone that helped make Trunk or Treat so special last night.

We live in such a broken and confused world. While it is sad to think that so many don’t know Jesus as their Lord and Savior, this also gives us plenty of opportunities to tell and show Christ to others.

1 Peter 4:4 With respect to this they are surprised when you do not join them in the same flood of debauchery, and they malign you;

It is hard for the world to understand why we as believers live a counter cultural life. The world says to live for pleasure and self, but God tells us to live for God’s glory and to serve others. A word of caution, God tells us to live differently, He doesn’t tell us to shun the lost. Sometimes we as believers can be guilty of shaming the lost because they don’t live like us. We need to use our differences to reveal Christ, not to push people away.

Surprise the world, show them Jesus

Reminders:

  1. Thank you to everyone who made Pastor’s Appreciation Day so special for me and my family.
  2. Wednesday Night after the service we will need everyone to help setup for Homecoming. The more helpers the quicker this gets done.
  3. Sunday is Homecoming with Lanier Singleton. Immediately after the worship service we will be taking a new Church family photo. Remember to bring enough lunch for your family plus 1. We will not have evening services.
  4. Nov. 11th Turn in Shoeboxes
  5. Nov. 20th Community Thanksgiving Services hosted by High Point. Supper after the service. Bring a Dessert

Join us Sunday

Church Family,

Sunday morning, we are going to talk about our habits. Especially when those habits lead to sinful behaviors.

1 Kings 19:2-3 Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, “So may the gods do to me and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by this time tomorrow.” 3Then he was afraid, and he arose and ran for his life and came to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there.

How does a person go from challenging a nation and winning, to running for his life? He had a terrible thought life that was developed with poor habits over time. Do you struggle with overreacting? Do you wish that you handled situations differently? Maybe you get angry to quickly or you may slip into thinking negatively. Then join us this Sunday. The great thing about habits, they are learned and can be changed.

Reminders:

  1. Pray for people, gospel conversations, and for God to be glorified through the Trunk or Treat this Sunday at 5pm. Cars will need to setup at 4pm. Free Candy, games, and food!
  2. Nov. 4th Homecoming with Lanier Singleton. Potluck lunch and a church picture taken after the service.
  3. Nov. 20th Community Thanksgiving Service at 6pm hosted by High Point.
  4. Nov. 21st Decorate for Christmas

I will be with you

Church Family,

Exodus 3:12a He(God) said, I will be with you....

The presence of God is the difference between those who are saved and those who need Jesus. It is not our morals, character, appearance, community standing, wisdom, etc. God's promise to be with us not only sets us apart, it should also fuel our life on mission. To know that God is with us should give us the freedom and confidence to lovingly share Jesus with others.

Reminders:

1) Prayer Meeting Tonight at 7pm.

2) Sunday at 5pm Trunk or Treat! Please remember to sign up a Trunk or for an Game. Our goal is 20 and we are up to 16 right now. I always factor in that at the last minute someone gets sick or called into work so we would love to have more than 20 signed up.

3) Pray for the souls that we are trying to reach through Trunk or Treat. Pray that God gives us the opportunity to share the love of Jesus with others.

4) Homecoming Nov. 4th with Lanier Singleton.

5) Don't forget to fill up your shoeboxes and return them by November 11th,

6) Community Thanksgiving Service Nov. 20th at 6pm here at High Point.

Faith without Works

Church Family,

James 2:17 So also Faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

Faith without works is dead. Works can not save us from God’s wrath, but His salvation leads to us doing works for Him. Here the word works is referring to any efforts that we do to make ourselves better, to redeem ourselves, and to save ourselves. Only Faith in Christ can save us. Yet, when we are changed by Christ, we wish to live out our redemption by doing works that reveal God’s salvation.

This Saturday we are doing to begin making bagged lunches at 9:30 in the church kitchen. We need any and all helpers.

Reminders:

  1. Monday night there is a Waccamaw Assn meeting at North Conway at 7pm.
  2. Don’t forget to sign up for Trunk or Treat
  3. Nov. 4th is Homecoming with Lanier Singleton
  4. I’m very excited start our Fasting sermon series this Sunday. Our topic this week is Revival. Has there ever been a time that you were closer to God? Are the church’s glory days in the past or present? Have you ever talked poorly about other church members or the church itself? Come see what God’s word teaches about this.
