Central Passage

Throughout the Bible men and women who declared their love of God, were in the presence of God but missed out. Many leaders, church goers, people that we would call good, are missing out. Church let us not make the mistake of missing out on God. We can feed the hungry, clothe the poor, show up for church, but if we are not fixing our eyes on Jesus, we are missing out

Here are a copy of the pastor's notes

The Tater family-

Throughout scripture there are those who have missed out.

Cause of money- judas why was this money wasted, alabaster jar.

Luke 7:36-39 One of the Pharisees asked him to eat with him, and he went into the Pharisee’s house and reclined at table. 37And behold, a woman of the city, who was a sinner, when she learned that he was reclining at table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of ointment, 38and standing behind him at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head and kissed his feet and anointed them with the ointment. 39Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would have known who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, for she is a sinner.”

John 12:4-6 But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples (he who was about to betray him), said, 5“Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?” 6He said this, not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief, and having charge of the moneybag he used to help himself to what was put into it

  • The greater cause is that our treasure is here on earth. We would rather be right and rich here than in heaven

Cause of their familiarity with Jesus- his family and home town

Mark 3:21 And when his family heard it, they went out to seize him, for they were saying, “He is out of his mind.”

Mark 6:1-6 He went away from there and came to his hometown, and his disciples followed him. 2And on the Sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astonished, saying, “Where did this man get these things? What is the wisdom given to him? How are such mighty works done by his hands? 3Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him.4And Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor, except in his hometown and among his relatives and in his own household.” 5And he could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and healed them.6And he marveled because of their unbelief.

  • Elmer Towns writes that we think that we are never wrong. 2 paramount problems in decisions are 1) our omniscient memories, we think we are always right because we remember being right before. 2) our omniscient insights, we think we must be right because we thought of the answers.
  • Take Paul formerly Saul for instances, He thought that by killing and terrorizing Christians that he was doing the will of God. Sometimes we think that we are on God’s side when we’re really not. We think we are making a decision that is right a decision that is in the will of God- but it’s not.
  • The greater cause is that our arrogance or ignorance is grounded in what we know and not who we know, God. We would rather be right and know people here, rather than be known in heaven.

Cause of control- the leaders of the time allowed control and jealous to get the best of them

Luke 7:29-30 (When all the people heard this, and the tax collectors too, they declared God just, having been baptized with the baptism of John, 30but the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected the purpose of God for themselves, not having been baptized by him.)

What is causing you to miss out on Jesus?

These men and women weren’t bad people. They were leaders, helpers, providers, movers and shakers, but they missed out on Jesus.
