From Me to We

Church Family,

I want to be transparent before you this morning. What I am writing about is a major struggle for me. God over the last several months has been leading me to focus on Church Unity. My first thoughts were, “I don’t have any issues with Unity.” My second thoughts were, “any areas of disunity are normal and natural, no big deal.”

Our last email talked about going from I to we, this email is about going from me to we.

God has gifted each believer according to the measure of Christ’s gift.

Ephesians 4:7 But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift.

Ephesians 4:11-14 And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, 12to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, 14so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.

You see first, my pride wouldn’t allow me to see any possible areas of disunity. Second, I tried to excuse the reasons behind disunity. Thirdly, I did nothing to address the issues, as if they would all go away naturally. All of these are terrible enemies of the ministry and body of Christ.

Ephesians 4:3 eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace

Are we striving for unity in the Spirit? Are we bold enough to trust the power of the cross to deal with our preferences, favoritism, differences, and flat out sin? Do you see the benefit of cheering on the different gifts in the church or do you long to have people who are like you?

Boldly pray this week for this weekends services. My hope is that God will use our transparence to bring us closer together. Pray that God will do a mighty work among us. The lost will be saved. The saved will strive for holiness and unity.
