John 21:1-8

Ch20 should have ended the book of John

3 groups:

  1. Those who are waiting on the Lord. You maybe in a rut or just blah, but you are waiting and longing for God. Best advice: do what He commanded you last to do until you get a new command.
  2. Those who are weighed down by sin and guilt. You have turned to what you know, but that’s doing nothing but pulling you away from God.
  3. As a Church are we trusting in our ability or in God? Have we stopped pleading for God to show up and do a work OR are we just trusting the process that we’ve always done? How many prayed for the service before hand? How many came prepared to worship? What were you believing would happen?

Mark 16:7 But go your way, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you.

  1. Serving God without His direction is useless. It seeks a reward from others and not God. Is your leadership and that’s me, leading you to seek the presence and direction of God?

  1. Obedience is the key to success (bold and courageous). The difference between success and failure in this case is the width of the boat. TOO often we throw the net where we desire and command God to bless it. No one likes change, but let me tell you something, if you keep fishing in a pond with no fish and you will continue to catch no fish.
    1. John 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

  1. We need to point Jesus out. Who recognizes Jesus? John, then he points him out. You can’t say you are commit to God and not be committed to His people. There is no example of that in the Bible. There are plenty of examples of men who were committed to God and His people even when His people weren’t committed to them.
    1. Luke 5 and John 21 are similar. In Luke the nets almost break and the catch is too large to count. Peter’s response is Lord get away I’m a wicked man. In John they know the exact amount of fish and the nets hold. God is in control.
    2. Caught live fish, that later died. We Catch DEAD MEN that later LIVE.
  2. It’s not how much you love but are loved.
    1. Jesus came to them.
    2. When He saw Jesus He forgot about the catch. He abandoned his brothers. For those caught in sin. You CANT focus on the harvest because you need repentance. Recall before denying Christ, Peter boasted of his affection for Christ.
    3. Those caught in sin need to take off for Jesus and start obeying again.

Stay the course, keep in His word, and trust that He is preparing you.

When it is revealed that God is somewhere working, run to Him.

How powerful is the gospel? What can it not do? What can it do in your life?
