Central Passage
John 7:32-44

These are the Pastor's notes, admitting this week, a lot of what was preach was not noted.

John 7:32-36 The Pharisees heard the crowd muttering these things about him, and the chief priests and Pharisees sent officers to arrest him. 33Jesus then said, “I will be with you a little longer, and then I am going to him who sent me. 34You will seek me and you will not find me. Where I am you cannot come.” 35The Jews said to one another, “Where does this man intend to go that we will not find him? Does he intend to go to the Dispersion among the Greeks and teach the Greeks? 36What does he mean by saying, ‘You will seek me and you will not find me,’ and, ‘Where I am you cannot come’?”

V32 the Oppressors of God are out to attack Him. Since they couldn’t get Him earlier, they are now sending the authorities to do so. Oppressors rarely like to do the dirty work. They are mostly talk with little action, because when they act, they can’t conceal their hatred and anger. So they will sit back and send others to do what they aren’t willing to do.

In a church setting that person is going to intimidate others, cause people to rethink decisions, because they know that most don’t want conflict. They are willing to stir up trouble, but rarely do they get involved directly for fear of others seeing through them.

This is a spiritual problem and not about the people. We fight against the spirits and not flesh and blood. One of the lessons for our discipleship group is about being a hireling. People will always try to make you a hireling. You have to decide not to be a hireling. That is the case in this passage and in every church. Don’t listen to the false spirit. Love on those who do and who listen to it.

Thus they who, in other respects, differed among themselves now conspire together, under the guidance of Satan, against the Son of God. Meanwhile, since the Pharisees had such ardent zeal and such incessant toil for defending their tyranny and the corrupt state of the Church, how much more zealous ought we to be in maintaining the kingdom of Christ!

There will always be a wicked spirit in the church that is trying to corrupt it. Remember well that in Acts, through the Love of God and showing of the Holy Spirit, that many of these priests were saved. Church we must stand up to the oppressive spirits that stand against the King and His Kingdom. These spirits are the same today as they were then. They can always tell you what they are against, but rarely, if ever do anything to show what they are for.

Now this is so powerful, first the dispersion is the phrase for where the Jews are scattered among the nations, greeks and gentiles. The hearers are looking down on Jesus, because they wouldn’t dare do this. They are mocking Jesus, will the Christ dare set up His throne somewhere else? Oppressors struggle to share what’s good. The Irony, is that the author and us, hear this as proof that the gospel is needed everywhere.

These verses when they hit you it will be like a Mack truck.

V33 “I will be with you a little longer, and then I am going to him who sent me

God, the Father has sent me. You can try to do all the harm you want, but it’s fruitless until the time that the Father has established. I will be, is a declaration. A declaration that no matter how much they oppose Him, he will not stop being obedient. When I leave is a declaration that it will not be because they forced Him to leave, but the Father commands it.

36What does he mean by saying, ‘You will seek me and you will not find me,’ and, ‘Where I am you cannot come’?”

They are laboring to arrest Jesus. No far worse. They are laboring and scheming to reject the grace of God and His servant.

It is possible to lose the presence of God. When you do, there is nowhere that you can go to get it back.
